Welcome to the Movie Media column - trailers, posters, and clips for upcoming films. Some are nice and fresh, some aren't. However, they all have something in common — they caught my attention, for better or worse. If there is a poster or trailer you think I should check out, be sure to let me know, and I will see what I can do.
This week's movie goodies include media for a returning icon of action, a new gangster film, a potential holiday hit, a couple of low budget horror flicks, a family fantasy, and more!
American Gangster - Poster Trailer
What else can I say other than this looks fantastic. The pairing of Denzel and Crowe, on paper, is pure gold. They are two first rate actors and the idea of them going toe to toe is a win-win situation. Add to that the fact that Ridley Scott is in the director's chair, and it is going to be hard to lose. Well, either that or I am setting myself up for a fall.
Wristcutters: A Love Story - Poster, Trailer
Winner of the Grand Jury prize at the 2006 Sundance Festival, Wristcutters: A Love Story looks pretty interesting. It is the story of a guy who commits suicide and finds himself with a new life and a new job. The main difference is that in this life everyone is dead. This looks to be a very black comedy, and one that I am looking forward to seeing. The final factor that sold me on this was when Will Arnett appeared in the trailer. Here is the poster and trailer.
The Deaths of Ian Stone - Poster
Featuring the effects of the legendary Stan Winston comes this horror film with a premise that could be absolutely fantastic, or fall into the fiery flames of beautiful disaster. The tale follows Ian Stone, who is murdered, but then awakens under new life circumstances only to be murdered again. Sounds like a great way to explore some of Winston's work. I had never heard of this before seeing this poster, and now I am looking forward to it.

Fred Claus - Poster, Trailer
When the first teaser trailer hit for this, I was very much looking forward to it. The combination of Vince Vaughn and Paul Giamatti just seemed to click. Then disaster struck. The full trailer arrived with secret service elves and it just started to look awful. Still, I have hopes that this will somehow turn out well. Here is yet another poster for it, as well as a trailer.

Wristcutters is a great example of adaptation of story to film. I have loved Edgar Keret from the moment he started writing stories and can recommend his small collection of short stories "The Busdriver Who Wanted to Be God" (Toby Press $12.95)to anyone. The last story in this volume "Kneller's Happy Campers" is the story that Wristcutters was based upon. Enjoy!
