Meet The Nextcats - Page 2

So how will Nextcat bring in its members? Social network sites frequently grow in size based on word of mouth, as existing members invite their friends to join a site they're already happy with. Pucci says "when it works that way, the organic exponential growth is very substantial."

But to get to that point requires a certain amount of critical mass. To help speed the process along, Pucci says there's also a bit of in-house recruiting going on as well:

We have several interns from various backgrounds in music, acting and modeling who try to invite certain strategically valuable professionals onto the site from various places - probably most effectively so far from "vertical" non-social networking sites where entertainment professionals have posted resumes, etc. Also, Nextcat plans to maintain a presence at industry Events that we consider strategically important, such as film and music festivals. For example, we maintained a booth presence at the Waterfront Film Festival, an annual event held each June on Lake Michigan, and the results were very promising. We're doing a booth at the upcoming Nemo Music Festival in Boston this Sep 28-30 as well. We also plan to test doing some advertising in a few of the larger trade press weekly newspapers such as the Hollywood Reporter or Daily Variety, Billboard magazine, etc.
No doubt, there will be some early complaints along the way about portions of the entertainment industry Nextcat doesn't seem to focus on, but it's still very early in their development. Will the site ultimately succeed? It certainly seems likely, at least on some level.
