Mean Girls Soundtrack Online

Our pals at Buzztone are behind this online-only marketing deal with iTunes:

The only place to find the movie's official soundtrack is at Apple iTunes, where it's being offered as a digital download for a limited time. Over the next six months, Mac and PC users can purchase the tracks featured in the film at the popular online store.

The digital soundtrack includes exclusive tracks from memorable scenes in the film. The soundtrack features tunes from Blondie, teen rocker Katy Rose, electro-punk band Peaches, Boomkat, Anjali and Nikki Cleary, along with tracks from the film performed by Lindsay Lohan and her talent show comrades of "Jingle Bell Rock," plus "The Mathlette Rap" and "Beautiful" are all in the digital package.

A first of its kind offer from iTunes and Paramount Films, the idea was conceptualized by Los Angeles marketing firm Buzztone, Inc. with independent digital distributor Artists Without a Label (AWAL).

Buzztone CEO Liz Heller said the idea materialized while her firm was brainstorming ideas for marketing the movie itself.

"We were working with Paramount on some 'BuzzMarketing' tactics for the film, and we believed that everyone who will see and love this film would be a heavy online user, the idea to release the soundtrack exclusively as a digital download just developed from there."

....Raised in the African bush country by her zoologist parents, Cady Heron (Lindsay Lohan) thinks she knows about "survival of the fittest." But the law of the jungle takes on a whole new meaning when the home-schooled 15-year-old enters public high school for the first time and falls prey to the psychological warfare and unwritten social rules that teenage girls face today. Directed by Mark Waters ("Freaky Friday"), from a screenplay by Emmy winner Tina Fey ("Saturday Night Live"), "Mean Girls" is a fictional comedy based on Rosalind Wiseman's New York Times bestseller, Queen Bees and Wannabes: Helping Your Daughter Survive Cliques, Gossip, Boyfriends and Other Realities of Adolescence. which Time praised as "a chilling account of the life our girls navigate in their school lunchrooms and hallways."

I saw "Mean Girls" yesterday...a brilliant satire on being a young female in American society. Initially I thought this would be another silly teen movie, but I was pleasantly surprised. It took me right back to when I was a young girl in junior high/high school & I'm only 20, so it brought back memories!

There is definitely an important message in this movie: that even the most beautiful people who seem to have it all, are very empty on the inside. They are insecure despite their conceited facade & they destroy others to feel better about themselves. I know many, many girls & women who are like this. The image of the haughty Plastics parading through the halls in their pink outfits, snobbily flipping their hair, was too much!

They were the embodiment of what every teen girl in America secretly yearns to be: popular, in control, powerful, rich, beautiful, with "perfect" bodies & "perfect" clothes. Other girls hate them but idolize them at the same time. Boys are at their heels. In the movie, Lindsay Lohan's character feels pressured to conform to this ideal & ultimately she becomes one of them. It's wildly funny, but also a very realistic look at how vicious the high school scene can be, particularly for kids who don't measure up to the yardstick set by society. It was also funny how Janis Ian (Lizzy Caplan), Cady's kooky goth friend who's rumored to be a lesbian, is also the name of a 1960's poet/musician who actually IS a lesbian...don't know if that was intentional on the director's part or not. Still, it's a great movie, IMHO. Refreshingly honest, hilarious, & fun all around. The soundtrack was pretty good & it's the only movie with Lindsay Lohan where she actually demonstrates any true acting skills. To anyone who hasn't seen it yet, I'd suggest giving it a chance...you might like it!

What's the name of the song that was playing when the girls all snorted a bunch of crystal meth, stole a hearse from the funeral home with a body in it, then took the dead body to the prom as one of their dates? At first I thought it was something from Grand Funk Railroad, but now I think it was by Jet. I think I saw the video for it on the VH1 countdown. Anyway, can someone please tell me?
