Making the Rounds at General Hospital — Anna's Back

Part of: Making the Rounds at General Hospital

Before we get too far, I have a complaint. I'm not sure if it's a writing issue or a final editing issue, but was I the only one feeling kind of ripped off to see Patrick, Robin, Lulu, and Dillon on a plane with absolutely zero back story? Patrick tells Robin the only reason he agreed to come along is because she was such a big help with his father. I would have liked to see her asking him to come. There is a similar exchange between Dillon and Lulu, and when the scene cuts back to Port Charles, Georgie is complaining about the huge fight she and Dillon had before he ran off on a big adventure with Lulu. What was only referred to would have made interesting viewing.

This isn't the only time they've referred to big scenes instead of shown them. Robin moved out of Mac's, got an apartment, and furnished it but the only mentions of it appeared on Robin's Daily Dose, the character's blog on ABC's website. It was only when she invited Patrick to dinner did we actually learn on screen that she wasn't living with her uncle anymore.

But on to what we've been seeing on the screen. The young foursome jetted to the Maarkam Islands to save Robin and Lulu's aging fathers from Holly and themselves. While there were some cute moments: Patrick whining that he would never forgive Robin if anything happened to his hands, the group of four pairing off and posing as two young couples to sidetrack the bounty hunters, and Holly flirting mercilessly with any and every male to try and make her escape with the found jewels; the real fun began when Anna made her huge entrance, scaling down from a helicopter to greet Robin with a hug and Robert with a round house kick to the chin.

Without a doubt Anna is back and it's the Anna of old not a caricature of the former great persona like what has happened with Robert, Holly, and to an extent Luke. I can accept it's been twenty plus years since the duo, trio, or group (depending on the summer and the opponent) were outwitting their evil counterparts. I can appreciate them not being as quick on their feet as they use to be, but at times the writers are making WSB agent, or as Dillon refers to him, world renown super spy, Robert Scorpio, out to be a few cards shy of a full deck.

As soon as Anna showed up sounding so reasonable and, what's the word, well-written, it was clear that she was only there for a week or two.

Do we know what Patrick and Liz are really doing?

I can't figure out what Holly's allure is. The last time Robert fell for Holly, she was vulnerable, having just lost Luke and then about to be deported while pregnant. Then they had that long slow fall into love. Now she just casts a spell over any man within 20 feet.

I can't believe Patrick's reaction to Lucky running short of painkillers. If he's having a problem, he should be checked back into the hospital and monitored, not made to go without.

Sonny's battle with bipolar is excellent, as you and I have discussed in email.

I thought I had read somewhere that Fiona Hughes had signed a one year contract, but I couldn't find anything to support it when I was writing up this weeks column, so for the time being I'll treat it as a rumor. One can always hope.

It hasn't been divulged yet what Patrick and Liz have going on, but my money is on some sort of career advancement for Liz. I'm guessing the references to "Lucky being heartbroken" have to do with the fact she's paying the bills.

I have a question -- I missed an episode of two around the time Lucky got hurt. How did it end up that the brain surgeon ended up being his doctor anyway. Is it just that Noah and Patrick are the only surgeons still on the show?

I agree about his reaction to Lucky and his request for more painkillers. It was sort of cavalier, but played to his sometimes self-absorbed persona.

Not sure about Holly and her appeal, but the character this time around is nothing like the way I remembered her. Like you said she had a vulnerability, and tender side way back when. This time around she was manipulating and cold and apparently the men of GH dig that kind of thing.

On Sonny, I was so happy to see the scenes with Emily talking to Lainey. I have hope they are going to do the story justice.

Hi -- I totally agree with what you said. A major flaw I picked up on in addition to those you mentioned was the aftermath of the scenes in which Carly, Jax and Durant were being shot at. One show ended with Carly sobbing over her dead father, and Manny still outside the householding them prisoner; the next one began with Jax cheerfully picking up baby John at the hospital, and Carly only mentioning Durant's death in passing to Bobbie and Sonny. How were they rescued? Where's Manny? What happened to the scenes we should've seen??

    Hi Heather,

I forgot all about that instance with Manny. But then again Durant's death was handled pretty bad, like you said nothing but a passing mention.

I'm not sure where Manny is, it seems like that whole story line has just been pushed to a back burner. Sort of like when Dr. Meadows was ran down. PC police spent about 5 minutes trying to find the hit and run driver and then gave up. After months of being in critical condition, she just showed up.

Ooo, ooo, I know, pick me. The bad real estate guy was the other shooter. Jax, in yet another unshown scene, snuck up behind him, knocked him out and got the gun. Manny escaped then.

Manny now is back in some room with the pictures of those he wants to kill. Liz or Sky is next. I expect we have to go through both before Manny is discovered.

Isn't Emily on his hit list too?

Carly certainly does like to interfere, especially where Jason is involved.

What was more interesting to me today was the way she was willing to help Alexis, and how gracious she was about receiving the help and Jax and Carly's upcoming nuptuals.

They are certainly turning Ric into the uber-bad guy. I'm almost betting he is going to be one of the upcoming "whodunit" victims.

laura - I hope to be getting my review for this past week up on site today and will talk about the paternity test and the impending results.

I said weeks ago I thought Maxie was faking her pregnancy, and it's starting to look like I might be right. Why else wouldn't she want Dr. Lee to examine her?

I know jason liz need to be together and sam, carly, lucky, lulu, and liz grandmother and every body else who's trying to come between them needs to get a life of their own if they don't have one.and as for sam she need to end her relationship with jason because if she doesn't face reality right now about how her realitionship is headed right now and the fact that she is keeping a sceret from him could destroy what ever realitionship they have left could be gone in an second if she don't come clean about her past life that he doesn't know about and he will once as amelia have every thing on sam's past and boardcast it on national tv so that jason could dump her for good and that's what exactly whats going to happened if she doesn't come clean about everything.if sam continue to keep it a sceret it will all blow up in her face and end up losing jason to liz and that's will be her own doing not liz and not jason or alexis the only person to blame it's her self.

as for lucky they need to take him and lulu, liz grandmother, sonny, skye and her baby daddy, emily, luke and some other annoying people on the show who's trying to come between jason and liz and another thing I hope they kill off sam, lucky, ric, skye and her baby daddy off the show completely.and also carly and carly's mother so that liz and liz and her son and jason and their baby on the way could be a family all ready so no one could try to come between them ever again.
