Looney Tunes Vol 2

There's only one disc you need from the "Looney Tunes Golden Collection Volume 2" and that is the Road Runner and Coyote disc. That is the essential, alchemical distillation of Warner Brothers cartoons, just one frustrated mammal and one bird going "beep beep". The rest is just gravy. Really, really good gravy.

No matter how many times I see them, they crack my shit up.

I have to agree, Looney Tunes Golden Years really were.

I wonder how complete these collections are. Specifically, I wonder whether they include any of the cartoons with the stereotyped characters from various ethnic groups. For example, I recall seeing several Warner short subjects with African natives portrayed as cannibals or simpletons or both.

These cartoons were still being played on children's television shows into the 1970s and '80s, although I haven't seen any broadcast recently. Studying them can give us insights into the subtle remnants of racism that still permeate American society, even today when direct overt racism is totally unacceptable to the majority of the American people.

But such things might not go over too well today in a mass-market collection like this, so I suppose it's understandable if Warner chose not to include them. After all, they are interesting only to people who think too much, like me.

The two sets are very deep, but don't include the so-called banned 11. Given the depth of the Warners cartoon catalogue, 8 DVDs barely skims what they have. The extras are great including commentary, documentarires, interviews, and more.

Given how much is available, carping about what isn't, is somewhat cranky. If I would complain about one thing it would be the lack of printed material. There are no liner notes or listing other just the titles (how many people know particular cartoons by the official title?)

If I was going to complain about the second collection, there's not enough Yosemite Sam, consarnit! Though we did get Fearless Freep in the first collection.

Not complaining, Jim, just wondering, and commenting in a carefully neutral tone.

Hency my use of the word "understandable" to describe such omissions, rather than any of the more inflammatory words available, of which I hardly need cite any examples, as they are seen so frequently around here.

Having clarified that, I do thank you for the information about just what has been omitted, and heartily agree with you that any future collections must make sure to include more of Yosemite Sam.

Saying you only need The Coyote and Roadrunner in a Looney Toons collection is like saying Pizza Hut makes good pizza. It's all about Bugs. The REST is gravy. Good gravy, but gravy nonetheless.

I'm not seeing anything in the listings for this set from my role model Foghorn Leghorn. That's wrong.

What are the banned 11 and where can I find them today?
