Picturehouse Films is sponsoring a giveaway to promote Gus Van Sant's latest film Last Days, starring Michael Pitt, Lukas Haas and Asia Argento. It opens on July 22. and it recently screened at the Cannes Film Festival.
From the press release:
Loosely based on the final days of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, Last Days is filmmaker Gus Van Sant's meditation on the inner turmoil that engulfs a brilliant, but troubled, musician in the final hours of his life. Michael Pitt (The Dreamers) stars as Blake, an introspective artist whose success has left him in a lonely place, where livelihoods rest on his shoulders and old friends regularly tap him for money and favors. Last Days follows Blake through a handful of hours he spends in and near his wooded home, a fugitive from his own life. Expanding on the elliptical style forged in his previous two films, Gerry and the Palme d'Or-winning Elephant, Van Sant layers images and sounds to articulate an emotional landscape, creating a dynamic work about a soul in transition.

Re Gus Van Sandt.
Have you seen his wonderful cameo in Jay and Silent Bob strike back. He's sitting counting money while directing a scene with Ben Afleck and Matt Damon for a sequal to Goodwill Hunting.
Afleck keeps asking for direction and Van Sandt keeps telling him to go away, he's busy. Afleck mutters under his breath,"always the artist Gus"
brilliant.
I hope this movie is as intriguing as his other work. I can't remember any of the reviews from Cannes.

this seems like it will be a great "fictional movie"--but what happen to the posed theory-that kurt's death was not a suicide but infact a over-looked murder scene? either way a brillant man and a father is gone and i'm glad to see people still remember him and his music...

Nirvana is my all time favorite band!!!! I can't wait to go see this movie. It's great that people still remember him and tribute to him.

I hope this movie deals with the subject matter in a sensitive way.
