Word comes that agent Jack Bauer's daughter Kim (Elisha Cuthbert) will be coming out with a lesbian love interest this season on 24. It is expected to be "one of the main storylines."

Granted this development is obviously delightfully titillating. On the other hand, what does this have to do with terrorist plots and international intrigue and other such stuff that we're watching this show for in the first place?
I have found her character to be an annoying distraction most of the time, and this doesn't sound like an improvement that way.

You and I don't agree on much, Al, but this time I find myself concurring. Making Runkimrun queer just for the sake of doing something, anything, with her just smacks of sick exploitation. Then again, exploitation is 24's raison de'etre, isn't it? Then again -- again -- the new season will start at a point three years after President Palmer's dangerous handshake. It is possible that Runkimrun could have discovered heretofore unknown dimensions of herself in reaching adulthood. Still, it smacks of cheap plotting for titillation and for rating's sake.
I admittedly was hooked on the show and it's on-the-edge-of-one's-seat intentisty, but sometimes it became just too stressful to watch it.

A queer theme for Kim seems pretty arbitrary, but really it's more an objection to basically ANY kind of love story in the context of this show. The whole real-time thing drives the show, and slowing down for pillow talk can only de-rail the dramatic thrust.

No, I understand perfectly the point you are making. And I agree with that.

Any woman would be better than the men she's been involved with.
The Kim plots do get rather annoying, but the producers think Kim in jep is an important part of the show.
Maybe in the fourth season, she'll go to Canada, get married and be out of harm's way with just phone calls on how well she is doing while Jack is figthing terrorists.

"Any woman would be better than the men she's been involved with."
Well, that would be true even if the men were amazingly wonderful. ;)

I liked Kim better when she was running from danger all the time ;)

Seeing as Kim has hooked up with Chase, whom I assume is a man, we can assume that this prediction was bogus. Then again, there are about 20 hours to go...

Yeah, I'm thinking now that ol' Al was HAD by some clever publicity guy.
In fact, she's been a much more palatable character this season, engaged in the main storyline and behaving in a reasonable and intelligent manner rather than distracting from it. She hasn't done any stupid shit to endanger herself or others, not playing "damsel in distress."

Barger, your picture is not displaying in Safari.
I've not a regular watcher, but it sounds like a way to juice up the plot. Characters suddenly getting new lovers, married or having babies is often about that.

Oh, it was made up. Hmmm. Maybe the scuttlebutt will become a plot idea-:).

Ah, my apologies. The picture I had originally pasted in apparently went away. I found another.
Again, I'm generally all in favor of hot lesbians, but really pretty much ANY kind of love story drags strongly against the basic structure of this show.
More interesting is President Palmer. One of the more interesting aspects of the show is the totally matter of fact presence of a black president. Between the good writing of the show and the talent of the actor, this seems totally credible. Dennis Haysbert should be getting some hardcore Sidney Poitier roles.
And his wife/ex-wife in the first two seasons was the most delicious Lady Macbeth character since, well, Lady Macbeth. And totally, evilly HOT.

I was totally absorbed in 24 the first two years and wrote about it extensively. I still haven't decided how ifeel about it this year, and by now that's probably not a good sign. There hasn't been all that much tension - although the Russian roulette scene was pretty tense (always is, the entire movie "Deer Hunter" was built around it), but the drug lord-bio terror foundation seems a stretch (I mean even more of a stretch), the characters haven't been all that engrossing, Jack seems preoccupied and not very sympathetic at all this year, and even the Prez is less compelling than in the other two seasons.
Amd nothing has really made me say "Oh wow" yet, as happened many times over the first two years. Maybe the formula is running out of steam or maybe the writingjust isn't as good this year.
I haven't given up yet.

ilove to watch 24..even before in season one..but for me the most intersting scene was when rick save kim from the terrorist and they fallin love to each other
