Kids all around the country cast a total of 115 million votes for this year's Kids' Choice Awards. The awards show took place at the University of California Los Angeles where celebrities walked the orange carpet. Everyone seemed to have an opinion on who should win or who they thought would win. The Kids' Choice Awards is infamous for pouring slime on celebrities and everyone seemed to have an opinion on that too.
Caitlin Sanchez was one of the first to walk down the orange carpet. Sanchez voices Dora from Dora the Explorer, which is entering its tenth year. It was Sanchez's first Kids' Choice Awards. She said, "I'm hoping iCarly will be a big winner tonight. But I also love True Jackson and Big Time Rush."
Jennette McCurdy, who plays Sam on iCarly, said, "I hope we're lucky enough to win again."
Noah Munck, who plays Gibby on the show, wasn't sure if iCarly would win, but was also hoping for it. He recognized that there were other good shows competing with iCarly (Disney's Sonny with a Chance, The Suite Life on Deck, and Wizards of Waverly Place). He said if iCarly did win, he would "go crazy. Celebrate. Take off tomorrow. Well, Sunday's tomorrow. The next week off." As it turned out, Munck and the rest of the iCarly cast will have to go out and celebrate — iCarly took home Best TV Show for the second year in a row.
The pop trio School Gyrls (featuring Mandy Rain, Jacque Nimble, and Mo Money) wore matching outfits: a sparkling gold jacket with a black tie and a pink skirt. It was their second Kids' Choice Awards, but first time on the orange carpet. They all wanted Jacob and Bella (from Twilight) to win cutest couple. Mo Money said, "I think Taylor Lautner's cute. That's why girls like them." The girls got they wanted — Jacob and Bella beat out Edward and Bella (from Twilight), Neytiri and Jake (from Avatar), and the Obamas. Lautner also took home Favorite Movie Actor. However, both the Twilight movie and book lost to Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakuel.
Sam Earle and Melinda Shankar from the popular teen drama Degrassi walked the orange carpet together. New episodes of Degrassi premieres next Friday. Both of them had never been to a Kids' Choice Awards before. Melinda joked, "I predict that I will lose my hearing when they say the words 'Justin Bieber.'" Sam predicted that Justin would be slimed.
