People always get upset when they turn on the news and hear a crazy person went on a shooting spree; they start screaming for stricter gun laws. How will that help? Those who set out to kill will find their weapon of choice. It's the potential victims that suffer. We need to stop punishing and making it harder on the good guys!
People tell me that my rescue dogs are overly aggressive and that because of the dogs, no one will try to rob me. I always say they don't have to worry about the dogs, I'll shoot the intruder before the dogs have a chance to bite.

Ruthie,
I understand what your saying! Most likely in New York, this means the bad guys have the guns and the Good don't? What I don't understand is why there isn't a universal gun law (with such emotional item) that can kill as well as save lives! A person would think some Congressman or Senator (who loves guns)would come up with a law for all!
Maybe if the law in their own State works for them, they think its good enough!
On My home front! My Son happens to own his own hand gun,and knows every State he can carry it in!
On the flip-side! I'm not certain I understand the guy being older and carrying gold didn't search out his options!I'm certain he could have hired guards-if he was that concerned for his safety!
Ruthie,I didn't realize (or didn't recall) how your brother died! Very Sorry! I had Uncles in similar circumstances! My Mother said the brother that accidental shot the other-turn grey over night! So ya! Guns worry me! But,I'm still going to go ahead and apply for my own hand gun license!
I bought My Son a Clay thrower! Not certain that's what its called? I will be shooting those clay disk, right along side him!
Good article Ruthie Ann!

If the Full Faith And Credit clause of the Constitution covers drivers licenses, why doesn't it cover concealed carry licenses? Better yet, why do we need a license to exercise a constitutionally recognized HUMAN RIGHT?!
"False is the idea of utility that sacrifices a thousand real advantages for one imaginary or trifling inconvenience; what would take fire from men because it burns, and water because one may drown in it; that has no remedy for evils, except destruction. The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm those only who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. Can it be supposed that those who have the courage to violate the most sacred laws of humanity, the most important of the code, will respect the less important and arbitrary ones, which can be violated with impunity, and which, if strictly obeyed, would put an end to personal liberty - so dear to men, so dear to the enlightened legislator - and subject innocent persons to all the vexations that the guilty alone ought to suffer? Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.. They ought to be designated as laws not preventive but fearful of crimes, produced by the impression of a few isolated facts, and not by thoughtful consideration of the inconveniences and advantages of a universal decree." --Cesare Beccaria (1738-1794), On Crimes and Punishments.
