She is also taking over as co-anchor of Entertainment Tonight from the departing Mary Hart. O'Dell had co-hosted Access Hollywood until leaving in 2009 because she felt it was no longer the right fit. She was scared, but felt that "if you try your best to lead your life the right way, things will come back around."
Choosing to host a New Year's Eve special felt right because there is something so magical about New Year's Eve and something so appropriate for her to be doing it this year on the cusp of her exciting 2011 plans.
O’Dell will help count down to 2011 during the ultimate year-end bash featuring the year’s most popular musical guests, including recording artist Travie McCoy and American Idol finalist David Archuleta. FOX will have cameras in Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, and in New York City, where the world-famous New Year’s Eve Ball makes its annual descent in Times Square.
The special is formatted so that you can drop in anytime, says O'Dell. Our goal, is to make sure that everyone tuning into Fox New Year's Live is entertained.
