ZC: Can you share with us any anecdotes regarding your experiences with directing Carnies?
BC: I honestly can't think of anything to answer this question ;)
ZC: How did you get started in the business?
BC: I have always loved the idea of becoming a filmmaker. When I was a teenager I had the opportunity to hang out at my stepfather's production company in New Mexico, I immediately became interested in film editing. I saved up my money and put together an editing system and video camera. Then I started making a little money shooting live events, weddings, corporate videos, whatever! As time progressed, I began shooting indie projects.
ZC: Which director or directors most influenced you and why?
BC: Stanley Kubrick for his suspenseful scenes in his classic film, The Shining. Tod Browning for films like Freaks , London After Midnight, and The Unknown starring Lon Chaney. Of course, there's directors like Hitchcock, Kurasawa, Coppola, Carpenter, Craven, I could go on and on.
ZC: Which film is your all-time favorite and why?
BC: That's a very difficult question; there are so many fantastic films out there. If I had to, one single all-time favorite, I'd have to say Apocalypse Now. I loved the look and aesthetics of the film, how they chose to shoot it in the Philippines, very near to the actual war zone. I'm also a huge fan of Martin Sheen who was absolutely brilliant in his role.
ZC: What projects will you be working on after Carnies that we can look forward to?
BC: We're actually working on another horror/thriller period film (can't tell you which period yet). The script is currently being written and it's going to be terrific! We'll keep you posted on our website www.trprod.net and on www.toxicshock.tv as it comes up.
ZC: Do you have any pearls of wisdom or dire warnings for budding horror directors?
Spend your money on a great cast, don't be afraid to go SAG if that's what it takes! If you're passionate and you've got a good script, you'd be surprised who you can get to take a particular role.
ZC: And finally, what's your current schedule for releasing Carnies?
BC: The film should be complete and released by January 2007.
You can find out more about Carnies at the official movie site.
