Interview: David Chokachi, Former Baywatch Babe and Star of Beyond the Break

David Chokachi has had an successful acting career—from playing Cody Madison on Baywatch, and Jake McCarty on Witchblade, to his current role as Justin Healy on Beyond the Break. David has many passions such as saving the environment and, obviously, acting.

He was born in Massachusetts and graduated from Bates College, where he majored in Political Science. He booked roles on Baywatch and Witchblade and received honors such as being voted one of People's 50 Most Beautiful People in 1997. He was last seen as Justin Healy on Beyond the Break.

Justin is a laid-back guy who just received the role of coaching an all-girl surf team. On the show, he has a lot of drama to deal with when he is stuck living with four teenage girls. The season finale of Beyond the Break is this Friday at 8:30 PM ET on the-N. There was a press release straight from the network confirming Beyond the Break has been picked up for a season 2.

In college, you majored in Political Science. Why did you decide to go into acting rather than pick a job in your field?

I chose to get into acting rather than stay in Political Science basically after various experiences in life. I always had a passion for acting, but being from Massachusetts, it really never seemed like a real possibility. My brother and my two friends growing up used to make home movies, we would do our own version of Miami Vice, our favorite show at the time. And we would borrow my Dad's old video camera....they were actually pretty good, for our age.

The East Coast mentality is very much about going to College and then getting a job straight away. So pursuing something in the entertainment field seemed so far off. I worked for a congressman in Washington, DC for a while. Politics did not interest me. I was however interested in potentially doing something in the environment, and the Congressman I worked for was Chairman of a Sub committee on Wildlife and Fisheries. Eventually, things kept leading me back to acting, so I kept on pursuing, a little further each time. Finally, I ended up where I am today.
