HD DVD Review: House of Wax (2005) - Page 2

A House Built on Wax is a 10-minute look at the visuals including some of the decent make-up effects. Three minutes of bloopers are fun as expected, while an odd From Location is an early promo for the film with Joel Silver who ends up being run over by a car. An alternate opening was a wise cut, and would have destroyed the minor tension created later despite a rather gory death sequence.

In a world of direct-to-video, it’s hardly a surprise when you hear about a marginally successful theatrical release being dumped onto home video in sequel form. Unsurprisingly, that could be the case here. The ending leaves it open, and if it was simply for a generic set-up, House of Wax loses even the so-so surprise finale.
