HD DVD Review: Dog Day Afternoon - Page 2

A solo commentary by Lumet doesn’t provide additional information compared to the documentary, though he will elaborate on certain topics. Lumet: Filmmaker is an archive piece (possibly a television promo) that features extensive on-set footage during its 10 minute running time.

John Cazale’s role of Sal has an especially eerie moment. As he speaks to one of the tellers, they discuss the dangers of smoking and how it can cause cancer. Three years after the release, Cazale passed away of bone cancer, making his dialogue (one of his few lines in the entire movie) stand out for those who know his fate.

    I got to hear the cinematographer speak one day and he filled is in on little tricks. Outstanding movie.
