Tonight's episode of ABC's newest hit show was full of drama. Some leaving us with a happy ending, others leaving us a flatline.
A man with Parkinson's Disease is given the option to just have surgery on his spine for pain, or on his brain to help everything. After some convincing dialogue on the part of his daughter and doctors, he opts for brain surgery so that he can walk his daughter down the aisle at her wedding. A happy ending.
A woman with a huge tumor that has been growing for the past year and a half undergoes surgery. After overhearing a discussion about her and "how can she live with herself" she doesn't want the doctor with whom she was enamored to be involved. There is debate about where to start in the proceedure which is expected to last for several hours. A flatline.
A man thought to be fine has a clot that causes his pressure to plummet leaving Dr. Stevens with no option but to go in while everyone else isn't answering their pages. She removes the clot and massages his heart. A happy ending.
Dr. Grey confronts who Dr. Baily, who she thinks is avoiding her because of her affair with Dr. Shepherd. Grey then tells Shepherd he doesn't need to give her favors or treat her poorly when she hasn't deserved it. He claims it was protecting her. A happy ending.
Dr. Yang and Dr. Burke continue their thing after he asks for a definition as to what they are doing. A happy ending.
The message is to make your own mistakes and learn your own lessons in order to understand firsthand that "knowing is better than wondering, that waking is better than sleeping." But ultimately a failure beats not trying.

I really loved tonight's episode. This show is wonderful.

Merediths character is annoying. i'm really hating the meet cute relationship shes having with patrick duffys character. that scene where she goes 'crap' was exactly how i felt about the delivery. i love the all knowing voice over being done by the idiot character too, just inspires me to be better. yah.

I don't necessarily find Meredith's character annoying, but a tad bit on the inconsistent side in the personality department. I forgave inconsistency in the first episode since the writers may have been trying to find a path for her, but by the 3rd episode, she still behaved erratically. Maybe her consistency is inconsistency? She's depressed one moment, happy go lucky the next, then sad again, then angry and violent, then happy go lucky again. Hmmm... I guess it is a bit annoying. All the other characters are fine though. The show is still entertaining despite a bad main character, although it would be a lot better if they could do someting with her. Oh well.

Characters don't always find their footing in the first episode or even in the first season. I could list several charaters that took a couple of seasons to finally nail down who they were and gain the acceptance of viewers.
However, I think the changes in her mood are somewhat common among people in general anyway. But for a tv show there really isn't the time to go back and forth. I am sure she will find her role with further development in the series. I don't think I would call her a bad main character (I actually like her, but I also can quote all of Bubble Boy too) so much as one who isn't as strong as one would desire.

I suppose it's true that characters don't find a footing at first, but most of the time, those are supporting roles. Main characters are usually more fleshed out, at least I hope so. I don't mind Meredith, it's just that I find the supporting cast around her to seem more interesting. Oh well.

I agree that the supporting cast is interesting. And chances are we'll get to know them more as the series progresses. I think it will end up being more of an ensemble show that Meredith just happens to narrate.
More like Scrubs- you get to know more about each person and such but still narrated by one.
But I am pulling that out of my ass, so it could be completely just my opinion as to what it should become and not happen.

This show is getting really stupid. if everyone sleeps with everyone else and only on the third episode, what's it got lined up for next 18 episodes? And the forshadwoing of future relationships, i mean, wow... talk about being subtle. How about, instead of sex, there's some character development (expecially on meredith, so this annoyance i feel doesn't bloom into full fledge hate). Give me a reason to care about merediths feelings please. Because right now i'm thinking shes going to get burned by both dr. dempsy and her friends, and i'm oh so looking forward to it.

I am sure that that is planed, maybe not all at once, but throughout the desired life of the show.

I don't like the voice-overs -- too cliched. They also act like nurses are largely useless and ineffectual.
Overall, I like the show a lot -- particularly Meredith's friend (played by Sandra Oh.)

this has got to be the best show ever!! meredith is so funny, i love her. patrick DEMPSEY and ellen pompeo work great together, i also like kate walsh, and i cant wait to find out what happens between the lil love triangle!!
