Golden Globes 2011 Predictions – Television Categories

With the Golden Globes this weekend, I decided to size up some of my favorites in each of the Television categories against who I believe are the clear front-runners.

Best Television Series, Drama
Boardwalk Empire
Dexter
The Good Wife
Mad Men
The Walking Dead

My Choice: The Walking Dead
Who Will Probably Win: Boardwalk Empire

The Walking Dead proved that you can include horror elements without resorting to camp, and focused on the drama of survival as much as the zombies that roamed the earth. The show has a chance, especially since the Globes always tend to be full of surprises. That is what adds to the ceremony’s appeal. However, given the heavy critical acclaim of Boardwalk Empire, the HBO drama probably has a slight edge even in this murderer’s row of quality programs.

Best Televison Series, Comedy or Musical
30 Rock
The Big Bang Theory
The Big C
Glee
Modern Family
Nurse Jackie

My Choice: The Big Bang Theory
Who Will Probably Win: Modern Family

Don’t get me wrong, I love Glee and Modern Family, but if I were to choose a show that made me laugh the hardest, I would have to side with the gang over at The Big Bang Theory (though Family is a very, very close second.) Plus, being a geek at heart, I guess I might be a little biased. That being said, Modern Family is a critical darling that is deserving of all the praise and awards it receives.

Best Actor in a Television Series, Drama
Steve Buscemi
Boardwalk Empire
Bryan Cranston
Breaking Bad
Michael C. Hall
Dexter
Jon Hamm
Mad Men
Hugh Laurie
House

My Choice: Bryan Cranston
Who Will Probably Win: Steve Buscemi

Cranston is a multiple winner for the Emmy’s, which gives him a strong edge. However, as I mentioned before, Empire has the buzz, so Buscemi will probably be a lock.
