Yes, you read that right – Glee has been picked up for a third season! It was announced today, May 24 by Peter Rice, Chairman, Entertainment, Fox Networks Group; and Kevin Reilly, President, Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company.
It’s really great to be able to look forward to at least two more seasons of a fresh new show that has transcended the television landscape in the mere year since it was first introduced. I’m still not over Ugly Betty being taken off air. Since, in my opinion, Ugly Betty transcended its contemporaries the way Glee is doing now, well, it’s good to know at least one is going to keep carrying the torch.
The fans definitely have something to do with this renewal: “Glee has one of the most active, devoted fan bases I’ve ever seen, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to give Gleeks a third season of their favorite show.” Never say that being a Gleek means nothing!
There are still a lot of corners for the show to explore, and I hope that, having the security of a third season in its back pocket, its producers are going to push the boundaries even further. After all, “everything about Glee – from the concept to the characters to the marketing – has been innovative and risky, but with Ryan Murphy tapping into the zeitgeist, the risk has paid off with this truly remarkable series,” said Reilly. I also hope that they are not going to fall into the trap Heroes fell in, of trying to latch onto characters to the point of drowning the plotline and, inevitably, the show itself.
Exciting, exciting, all the more that tomorrow, the Glee club will be performing some of Lady Gaga’s music. About time, I say!

It's good news. I've enjoyed Glee although I prefer the narrative to the music. Hopefully they will move away from the "theme" shows and go back to the darker storylines of the first season.
