Director George Lucas' dark 1971 SF movie THX 1138 will be re-released in theaters on Sept. 10 in a new director's cut, followed on Sept. 14 by a two-disc collector's-edition DVD.
I'm just wondering if the original print of this film was kept away from George... surely he would not allow this to be released without updating the special effects, would he?
Why does this film get the respect of not being altered while the original Star Wars films will never be seen in their original form again? Like I said, it must have been out of George Lucas' control. I can't think of another reason.

Really... I guess I'm not familiar enough with the original to tell the difference.
I should have known.

I would rather smack myself in the face with a rusty shovel then sit through Lucas' THX-1138 a second time.
Do yourself a favor and rent Westworld instead. I mean, if you are going to sit through a shitty 1970s sci-fi with a bald idiot, why not Yul Brynner, the most famous bald idiot of all?

Vic, i'm not very familiar with the original either. I'm jsut guessing those highly-CGI looking robot factory shots aren't 1970's vintage. Notice how they hide them away, cutting very quickly, no big "With All-New Footage" voiceover.
Maybe he's finally catching on that some folks liked his films in the first place.
Seriously george, come on man. Don't be so hard on yourself. Some folks think those little flicks were alright, man. YOu don't need to throw in your gargantuan-priced CGI shots and stuff, man. Honestly, i bet your penis is really adequately sized, man. Don't feel you have to prove anything is all.
Chris, agree on Westworld. Wonderful stuff.
It's a shame Arnie was voted in and what-not, becuase of how he knows fuck-all about politics, and also becuase it means his much-vaunted remake of Westworld has probably been shelved. Oh well. Mind you, the harry knowles digest, aka www.aintitcool.com recently yacked about he plans to return to the cinema in 2006. Who knows what could happen?
