The New Asylums airs Tuesday night on most PBS stations. It will be be available online Friday evening and on Monday for the first time there will be a commentary available by the producers. There is already an short video supplement online.
Mentally ill people ending up in the prison system increasing numbers (estimates are over 500,000 out of 2 million inmates while there are 55,000 in mental institutions).
The producers were given access to what is considered a model program for mentally ill inmates at a maximum security prison in Ohio.
