Family Guy DVD Box Set

I never really watched Family Guy much when it was on FOX. My father tended to be very anti-comedy cartoons. For instance, I used to not be allowed to watch The Simpsons. I think my father was afraid I'd turn into Bart Simpson. Or worse, Homer. He is still very anti-Simpsons, but that doesn't stop me from watching anymore. If I'm watching and he walks by he makes either a dissapointed grunt or a comment about the show.

Well, if my father thought the Simpsons were bad, he apparently never watched Family Guy. I am still surprised that FOX aired this on prime time. That doesn't mean it's not funny, however.

You've got the main family, the father Peter, the loving wife, Lois, the daughter, Meg, who's 16, Chris, a 13 year old slob, and Stewie, a one year old genious. Not to mention the family dog, Brian. Who has fine taste for drinking, cigars, and tv. Then there are the neighbors, a policeman in a wheel chair (and his pregnant wife), an easy-going black guy (plus wife and kids), and the town lady-getter (and whatever lady he happens to be screwing at the moment).

While each person in the main family tends to be the center of attention for several episodes, Peter has the most prominant roll. He is big, stupid, and doesn't pay attention to God or Law. He screws up the majority of the time and usually needs someone to bail him out.

The running joke throughout the series is Stewie's attempt to kill his mother, Lois. It can be anything from trying to trip her down stairs, to throwing darts at her, to dropping furniture on her. Each attempt ends up unsuccessful, either due to missing, or, in one case, because Death was lying down on the job with a sprained ankle.

Meg is a typical 16 year old teen going through typical problems. Boys, driving, popularity, looks, and so forth. Chris, one of the fattest kids in the area, goes through simular issues, mainly focusing on looks. His efforts are mainly hindered by complete stupidity.

You can still catch Family Guy on tv - weeknights (time varies) during Cartoon Network's Adult Swim, which starts at 11pm.

I had been debating on getting the set and last weekend I was in Best buy had a few credit on the credit card and went ahead and made the purchased. I love Family Guy, 'what in the hell' is wrong with Stewie. So far I have only made it to Season 2 Disc 1. I will be getting the Third Season as soon as funds will allow.

I love sardonic humor and Family guy is riddled with it. Although I do agree its not for everyone the sexual implication in cartoons is still something to get used too. But all in all its great Generation X entertainment.
