Fall Lineup Frenzy 2006 Part V: The CW - Page 2

Part of: Fall Lineup Frenzy 2006

My Thoughts: It's rare for a show to air a series finale then suddenly come back the next season. You have to go back to the 1980s and Magnum, P.I. for a comparable example to what happened to 7th Heaven. Many who did not watch the show are probably wondering why it was resurrected. Quite simply, it had too many viewers for it to disappear. The show was The WB's biggest overall draw last season with an average of 5.66 million viewers each week. The "series finale" drew more than 7 million viewers when it aired. Even if it is reportedly an expensive proposition for The CW, this new network needs shows like 7th Heaven to help it through its inaugural season. This is probably also the reason why The CW decided to use 7th Heaven as the lead-in for Runaway, one of only two new shows The CW will be airing this fall. The show has an interesting, high-concept premise and is certainly an interesting companion for 7th Heaven.

Tuesday

8-9 p.m.: Gilmore Girls
9-10 p.m.: Veronica Mars

My Thoughts: When The CW was first announced, I think just about everyone assumed that this pairing was a no-brainer. These two are critically acclaimed, female-driven shows with loyal fan bases. However, Gilmore Girls has lost its core creative team of creator/writer/executive producer Amy Sherman-Palladino and her husband, writer/executive producer Dan Palladino. As we've seen in recent shows such as NBC's The West Wing and ABC's Commander-In-Chief, the quality of a show can dip dramatically when its creators leave. Will the same fate befall Gilmore Girls?

Wednesday

8-9 p.m.: America's Next Top Model
9-10p.m.: One Tree Hill

My Thoughts: I think putting these two shows together is a good idea. Both of these shows draw a large amount of younger female viewers and they seem like a good fit. One Tree Hill pulled out all the stops for its season finale (mostly because of the uncertainty surrounding its return). It may be hard for the show to remain fresh after that.

Thursday

8-9 p.m.: Smallville
9-10 p.m.: Supernatural

My Thoughts: This is one of only two nights on The CW's schedule that remains completely unchanged from one of the previous networks. Supernatural is the only show that premiered on The WB last season to make the jump to The CW. This combination of genre shows with appealing male leads did pretty well last season for The WB and will probably continue to do so.

keep EVERWOOD and fire the person who wants to cancle a great show with great rateings. Bring
it back you should see all the petions to bring it back . There is also a movement to boycot the CW if everwood is not picked up. remember it is the people that pay you when we watch your shows
so you think you would want to keep shows people want.

I think it is absolutely ridiculous that all of these really good shows are being dropped from the fall line-up. Related has been a show myself and my sister n law sat down every week to watch together and most of the time by the end of the show we were crying right along with the sisters. We have never been able to relate to another show like this. It's nice to watch a show and be so into it that you feel like you're right there with them. To drop Related would be a crime.

Everwood was my only reason for tuning into the WB. Sorry for 7th Heaven fans out there but I was glad to hear it was ending then my jaw dropped when it was announced they're coming back. They should cancel that "renewal" and give Everwood the 5th season it deserves. Screw the WB for cancelling the only show worth watching that station for. At least release these seasons on dvd... It's down right cruel to just release 1.

I think it is a real shame that Everwood is being dropped. It was an honest display of the emotions and struggles that go on between and inside teenagers trying to figure out life and also the struggles that their parents have raising children of this age and steering them towards the type of information they need to make wise choices for themselves. I could always see myself going through the srtuggles of Andy or Nina know ing how to solve the issues that are a part of their daily life,It was an honest snapshot of families with teenage kids and the struggles that are encountered and how they solved them Please don't cancel it!!!!!

I will truly miss Charmed. I am proud to say that I am one of the 3.5 million viewers that watched them regularly.
During their final episode, I was really feeling empty, realizing that it was the end of a good run.
Phoebee, Piper and Paige, thank you for entertaining me over the years, for being strong, sensitive and sexy. I enjoyed each and every journey the Charmed episodes took me. For every demon you vanquished for every spell you chanted and every relationship that went awry, I was there to watch the power of three make it right!

I hope the new network would change their minds about Charmed. There were only three shows I watched on their network. That is Charmed, Supernatural and Smallville. I guess Thursday will be the only day I will view their network

I love Everwood and I think it should be picked up even for mid season or whatever. I just should be on. As for 7th heaven Im glad thats on too. And Related I LOVED that show also and think its unfair not to let it return because they just left us hangin. I think americas next top model, supnaaural and smackdown should be cancled. Oh and I absolutely love veronica mars and one tree hill!

I am very sad that 2 of my favorite shows are no longer going to be on this fall. Everwood and Related. I love the way they presented families...you can get through anything with the love and support of your family. In this day and time it was quite refreshing to watch. Needless to say, for me the new line-up does not sound very appealing.

I am also disappointed that everwood didn't make it I really enjoyed watching this show and it showed the ups and downs of small town life. I am excited that seventh heaven is coming back I wonder what will happen next.

I think it's a shame that 7th heaven is back. Really, Related was an awesome show that my family got really attached to. It deserves another shot, on a steady night. And what happened to the WB comedies like what I like about you and Reba. Really, put something in the 7 o'clock spot.

I am just sick of all of the network crap... UPN was more for african americans and had shows on there that were very good positive shows for african americans.. Half & Half was always better to me than girlfriends and poor EVE they kept putting that show in the wrong time slot... What the hell! So They put all the Black shows on Sunday what year is this again? Asa young black viewer I feel stabbed in the back.... I am pissed

Please keep EVERWOOD!!!!!!!!!!! It is a dramatic, nurturing, family friendly show. Although I am thrilled that 7th heaven is returning, everwood should not have been cut. Maybe if the networks listened to their viewers sometimes, they would not lose loyal fan bases.

    RETURN EVERWOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

is paul rodriguez gonna have a show this fall???????

  • 18 - rebecca

    Jun 13, 2006 at 12:23 am

I am dying to see paul rodriguez jr. He is so gorgeous. He's a hot a$$ latino skateboarder. If the CW does not put a show on with Paul Rodriguez jr. then the CW network will be lame because it's imperative to show successful latinos on television. There is a huge latino population not only in southern California, but as well as throughout the U.S. Thus, CW will gain a large audience from a group of people who are typically stero-typed, but who need other lationos to look at on television who are role models. So far it looks like CW is the same ol' network with country bumpkins and cliche urban comedies that are not funny... except chris rock show.

Well like all the other station there really isn,t many shows for african american to watch any more i would like to have a good show to watch at time .But i am happy to see some of my favorites . Smallville & Supernatural & veroni mars.but come on people let,s get some shows that everyone to watch, most of the shows cater to teenager or 20 something.

Who wacthes the UPN anyway. I have never wacthed that network besides for the shows that came from the WB. They need to get rid of a few more of the upn shows and bring back stuff like Everwood and Charmed and get rid of Everybody Hates Chris All Of Us Girlfriends America's Next Top Model and this new show runaway doesnt sound very good. Bring back the stuff people wacth.

It is a shame that all the African-American shows are slowly being bumped out. I am glad they are keeping some of my favorites like Girlfriends, All of US and Everybody Hates Chris. And I kinda like the move to Sunday, now I don't have to worry about moving my work schedule around on a week day just to watch. I hope the CW won't completely abandon African-Americans like the other networks have.

I have trouble understanding why this new network would put a great show like "Supernatural" up against shows like "Grey's Anatomy" and "CSI"! I am so afraid that this great show will get buried by these VERY popular shows. I love "Grey's" so either way, my Tivo will get the ultimate work out. (Just a thought: Why not put "Supernatural" on Wednesdays? There is barely anything watchable on then.)
    Good luck to the network!

PLEASE bring back RELATED!!!!!!!! and EVERWOOD!!!!!!!!!!!Great showes! PLEASE bring them back! I need to see what is going to happen with Ginnie and Bob! But I did see Margie is on a new show??? We need Related! As for the devoted watchers of Everwood, we have EARNED the right to see Nina and Andy get married PLEASE! This is a crappy line up, the WB was my evening TV now??? There is just One Tree Hill and Gilmore Girls I hope CBS, ABC, NBC and FOX has something worth while on. Whoever thought of this merger sucks!

I think it's a big mistake to not bring back Jill Marie Jones of Girlfriends. The character is critical to the success of the show, and she deserves any pay increase she is asking for. Is it true her other castmates caved in on negotations and left her out in the cold? She is a fine actress and will go far in the industry.
