I saw the trailer a few days ago but I've been out of town. The trailer was enough for me... it has cemented my reasoning for not going to see the movie.
I saw:
- Statements taken completely out of context.
- Statements that were probably stated in a joking manner presented to look serious.
- Grandstanding by Moore.
Anyone who takes this as a legitimate documentary is either naive or needs their head examined. Of course one of these will apply to the Academy of Motion Pictures and Arts since they will no doubt give it an Oscar for Best Documentary.
The only consolation I can think of is that Moore has lost all credibility with the mainstream public and that his films will be taken for what they are: Blatant, one-sided propaganda.

I saw the trailer as well, and there is probably some truth in what you're saying. I can't say for certain which statements were taken out of context, but Bush's own comments were obviously jokes; the comments he made to his backers -- "some call you the elite; I call you my base" -- sound like they were made at a Gridiron dinner, and yes of course no one grandstands like Moore, except possibly Rush Limbaugh. This is why I can't get that upset; Moore is kind of like the liberal revenge for talk radio. He's a rabble-rouser and a cage rattler and he plays a little fast and loose with the facts. The difference is that while most conservative commentators throw their arms around Rush, most of what are considered liberal media outlets will almost certainly disassociate themselves from Michael Moore, if they haven't already, mainly because most liberal media outlets aren't really liberal -- they're moderate, far more moderate at any rate than Michael Moore. The media hews strongly to the middle of the road; reporters have a strong tendency to believe that the truth lies somewhere in between the extremes, and they tend to either pummel or ignore the Rushs and Moores of the world.
I welcome "Fahrenheit 911" as an ideological Molotov cocktail tossed into the debate over Iraq. Let the fireworks begin.

i dunno, what about the last clip? i dont see how thats taken out of context. he [bush] seems pretty serious, and yet, not serious, you know? on one hand, i would hope he wouldnt joke about terrorism, ever. on the other hand, i would prefer to think that talking about terrorism in such a serious manner, then switching to a statement about your golf swing would be absurd humor.

Without actually seeing the movie, how would you know which clips are taken out of context, since you don't know what context they're presented in? Or maybe this is a subtle form of irony, you bashing Moore for supposedly distorting the truth while playing loose with the facts yourself.

Robert,
Sorry, I'm not that subtle. :-)
All I can go by is his past behaviour and how he's presented information in prior films.

Of course it was one sided. He made the documentary to help change the country, to remove a criminal from office.
7 - David
Moore obviously has a one sided view. If Rush Limbaugh had a camera how do you think he'd portray Clinton.
What's worse Michael Moore is a loud mouthed extremist idiot producer just like Spike Lee. We all know about Spike.
In fact if I'm correct I saw Spike's ugly ass walking into the premier.
Heaven forbid Moore jump's from a plane. Talking about an earthquake. Cali wouldn't need a 10.0 to sink into the ocean. Maybe he'll land in Canada. What a better way to create a new lake.

Jeez! Sometimes I think the site banner should spout '(Whatever inflated number) of mainly clueless bloggers' instead of that 'superior' crap. Trailers highlight what the producers consider to be exciting parts or selling points of movies. They are not supposed to show material in context, quote lengthy statements or ignore the person who is starring in the film, for Chrissakes. This is not rocket science. Why do people bother to post nonsense like this entry?
We already have the sort of book reviewers who tell the reader to ignore the theme because it offends their Right Wing sensibilities or say a novel does not have a plot. Now, welcome a movie reviewer who doesn't know what trailers are meant to do.

Let's hear it for Rodney! Yes! That is exactly what I experienced during my years as a journalist. The few times extremist things happened, they were from the Right. For example, newspapers fear of unionization. The myth that reporters are leftists is so untrue. Many people in the media are too unquestioning, if anything. Most of management wants to get a product out that alienates as few people as possible. That has a middle of the road effect, too.

our motto is a goal to constantly strive for, not a statement of smug achievement; but on the other hand, out of themillion bloggers out there, ours are certainly relatively superior
11 - David
I bet most of you gay leftist bloggers would give anything to have Monica Lewinsky's lips for two minutes.
Michael Moore is merely presenting a one sideded fictional story that the left is drooling over.
If the fat bastard had any credible information on 9/11 why isn't he going before the commission. Oh I know! They couldn't promise him a break to hit the MILE LONG BUFFET nor provide toilets with douches to rinse his fat ass crack.
He would greatly benifit from some of Spike Lee's Crack to shed the lb's. I'm not talking about Spike's ass crack either, although the big ferry would probably like that too.

I just wanna see Bush explain why the entire bin Laden family was whisked from the US on taxpayer supplied jets a day after 9/11.
Seems to me the FBI might have wanted to question them first.
Oh, wait, I think I have my answer. Nevermind.
PS: re "David" -- Where do I sign up for Monica's lip?!!!

I just wanna see Bush explain why the entire bin Laden family was whisked from the US on taxpayer supplied jets a day after 9/11.
If your brother or sister murders someone, should you be treated as a criminal? Obviously the police would want to talk to you, but they would likely come to YOUR house, not whisk you down to the station and treat you like a criminal.
At the time, it was thought that Americans might lash out in violence against Muslims and bin Laden's family would have been an obvious target of this kind of hate crime. The Saudi government, I believe, requested their safe removal and the US complied.
But here is what I love about Bush critics; President Bush will be critisized no matter what he does. If he had failed to fly them to safety and something had happened, it would have turned into an international incident and, of course, Democrats would denounced the President for being "indecisive" in such a critical moment. Even if nothing had happened and we had kept them in the US for questioning, the Saudi's would have complained and Democrats would have used that against him.
Lets take a broader perspective. If President Bush had not sent troops to Afghanistan to oust the Taliban and al Qaeda, he would have been called "weak," "indecisive," "cowardly," a "danger to the nation's security interests," etc. Because he did send troops to Afghanistan he was called "warmonger," "chickenhawk," "unilateralist," "dangerous," etc.
The same holds true, of course, for Iraq. But, for not going to Iraq, Democrats would also have condemned him for leaving a tyrant willing to cooperate with terrorists in place.
It's been this way since Bush was elected. "Whatever Bush supports, we oppose, whatever he likes, we hate, whenever he says 'yes,' we say 'no!'"
As for Michael Moore, he is praying for Bush's reelection. Why? Because Bush is the best thing that ever happened to him. Moore is a multi-millionaire because of the extreme left's hatred for Bush. If Bush wins the next election, then Moore is going to make more money than Bill Gates.
Nuff said.

I couldn't have said it better. If I'm correct the Bin Laden family sortof cut of and dis-owned Osama a long time ago. The family was found not to be involved. Besides would you want to go to Kroger for some milk on 9/12 or 13 if your last name was Bin Laden? Not me.
Let's hope Monica and Michael Moore never marry and have kids together. They'd have the same initials with a bucnh of fat dick sucking kids eating anything not nailed down. Their own snot included.

Documentary defined:
1.Consisting of, concerning, or based on documents.
2.Presenting facts objectively without editorializing or inserting fictional matter, as in a book or film.
Michael Moore is missing about two thirds of this unless he has priviledged information and the Bush insiders really like this guy.
16 - Shark
Man, whatta thread.
17 - Mac Diva
Are there really three different Davids as wack as this?
18 - Tom Johnson
I bet most of you gay leftist bloggers would give anything to have Monica Lewinsky's lips for two minutes.
I'm trying to figure out the logic of this - if they're "gay," then they probably aren't all that interested in Monica's lips, right? I'm just trying to straighten this out, this is pretty serious crap here.
19 - David
I meant they would like to know how Clinton's DICK tasted and felt. GET IT?
20 - Tom Johnson
Comments taken out of context - yes, absolutely, and the proof is already starting to come out. In the trailer, Moore approaches a Congressman and asks him about signing his draft petition to send the Congressman's kids to Iraq. In the trailer, the Congressman is seen glancing at Moore in what we believe to be shock. In reality, the Congressman actually turns to him, pauses a moment, and remarks that his two sons are in Iraq and he's proud of them.
As for the Bush golf-game ("Now watch this slice," I remember when this happened, and Bush was being hounded on a golf course by press and just wanted to have some free time to play a round of golf. He relented and talked about some issues that he had already talked about in the press numerous times, and then he made it clear he was going to go back to his game and enjoy it. Again, a meaningless thing that Moore blows way out of proportion.
Why Moore can't be fair and present his "facts" as they're given to him, rather than picking and choosing only what bolsters his claims, I don't know. If he wants to do this, he needs to make sure it's obvious that his work is marketed as something that has been manufactured to present only his viewpoint, because that's all it can be. It can not, under any circumstances, be a documentary if it contains doctored and out-of-context footage, and it most assuredly has both of these in large quantities.
21 - David
Moore admitted already to having paid off a foreign press member for some questionable video. I watched his fat ass on TV yesterday sqwirm when asked point blank about certain elements of his b-rated flick.
22 - Albert Jones
What a person says in jest often has a good amount of truth in it. This falls under the Freudian Slip. Coupled with all the lies leading up to the Iraq war and all the lies following it, one does deem truth from 'humorous' statements. Without a doubt, there is considerable Truth in Bush's statements about the rich. Here's the fact: Bush has raised and spent record amounts of money and he didnt get it from $25 checks. It was from the super wealthy. I rest my case.
23 - Vic
If nothing else I'm happy to have contributed to the creation of such a lively thread. :-)
Of course I know the purpose of of trailers, BTW, and usually the trailer is a reflection of what will be the tone of the film. Hence my comments.

Vic

y'all need to get a life. the movie is funny -- and a hell of a lot of people totally agree with what moore is saying. The right wing gets two hours of limbaugh daily -- but can't stomach a single two hour michael moore movie. They say the torture movie, passion of christ, is some kind of spiritual event, but then say michael moore can't make a two hour comedy. What's wrong with you people?

"What's wrong with you people?"
LMAO!
