Everlasting Gobstoppers

Just started watching Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and just realized the last time I watched it I missed the beginning parts. I didn't know German Scarface, candy competitor guy - Slugworth - had gone around to all the winners, whispering in their ears. The rest of the film is coming back to me now - the details not the obvious parts.

There are few films I really care about. This is one of them. It was a film both Carmen and I said "yeah" and we stopped to watch.

The movie trailer promo is here. (Click link)

As with many good things - such as myself - it was "born" in 1971.

One of the best movie songs of all time: "Pure Imagination." The look on Willy Wonka's face - which belies the lyrics - says, "This sucks. Kids today aren't worth much."

Hold your breath.
Make a wish.
Count to three.

Come with me and you'll be in a world of pure imagination
Take a look and you'll see into your imagination.
We'll begin with a spin traveling in the world of my creation.
What we'll see will defy explanation.

If you want to view paradise
Simply look around and view it.
Anything you want to do it.
Want to change the world?
There's nothing to it.

There is no life I know to compare with pure imagination.
Living there you'll be free if you truly wish to be.

If you want to view paradise
Simply look around and view it.
Anything you want to, do it.
Want to change the world?
There's nothing to it.

There is no life I know to compare with pure imagination.
Living there you'll be free if you truly wish to be.

Golden Ticket is the other great song. The lyrics are all here.

NB Being a big believer of coincidence for a reason I note that the latest edition of the Roald Dahl book, which teaches lessonsof humility, came out September 11, 2001.
