Nominations for the Primetime Emmy Awards were announced this morning, and the entertainment world was watching closely. While not every category came up (thank heavens, there's 94 of them), there were a few notables mentioned, along with a few surprises.
An adjustment in the rules gave those actors who kept getting nominated but overlooked a chance. Ten options were narrowed down by a panel of judges to the five finalists who would be eligible to receive the highest award in television.
In the Drama Category for Best Series, the usual suspects made their appearance. House, Grey's Anatomy, The West Wing, 24, The Sopranos. Gee, you think the fact that one of these shows just went off the air and another is about to do so had anything to do with the decision?
The Comedy Series ranged from the regular programming of Two and a Half Men, The Office, and Scrubs to Curb Your Enthusiasm and Arrested Development. Again, one of these shows just went off the air.
The acting categories were a bit more diverse, but they expanded the potential winners to more than the typical ones. Peter Krause of Six Feet Under shares the Dramatic Acting limelight with Denis Leary of Rescue Me. Keifer Sutherland was nominated for his work in 24, while Martin Sheen of The West Wing and Christopher Meloni of Law and Order: SVU rounded out the group.
The Dramatic Actresses, in part, came from those shows. Frances Conroy of Six Feet Under is competing with Geena Davis of Commander in Chief. Also in this category were Mariska Hargitay of Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, Alison Janney of The West Wing, and Kyra Sedgwick of The Closer.
Supporting Actors and Actresses for Drama opened the field even further. While no one knows who wins until the show airs, the range is interesting.
The Men are William Shatner of Boston Legal, Oliver Platt of Huff, Michael Imperioli of The Sopranos, Gregory Itzin of 24, and Alan Alda of The West Wing.
Women include Candice Bergen from Boston Legal , Chandra Wilson of Grey's Anatomy, Golden Globe Winner Sandra Oh, also of Grey's Anatomy, Blythe Danner of Huff, and Jean Smart of 24.
Comedy-wise, old friends mixed in with new favorites. The shows are Arrested Development, Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Office, Scrubs, and Two and a Half Men.

i really feel bad for desperate housewives, but then again they can't expect nominations everytime.

Actually, they did get nominated. But one went to the newest neighbor and one went to a guest star. Considering Teri Hatcher and Felicity Huffman have Golen Globes, Emmys, and an Oscar between them, it says something.
