DVD Review: What's Going On - The Life & Death of Marvin Gaye and Greatest Hits - Live in '76 - Page 2

The Greatest Hits: Live in '76 concert, seen after the documentary, gives it new depth and context.  This concert was recorded live during his first European tour in 1976 and is filmed at the Edenhalle Concert Hall in Amsterdam.  His desperation for acceptance and love is palpable during this performance, thereby making this fantastic concert more meaningful. He performs all of his biggest hits including "I Heard it Through the Grapevine," "Ain't No Mountain High Enough," "Sexual Healing," and he brings the house down with "What's Going On."

From romantic hope to romantic despair, God was always in one of Marvin Gaye's corners and the Devil in the other. The saying "Love carries the seed of its own destruction" is the epitome of the life and subsequent death of Marvin Gaye.
