DVD Review: Veggie Tales: It's a Meaningful Life

Part of: Kiddie Corner

Big Idea, the creator of Veggie Tales, has released it's newest Veggie Tales DVD titled It's a Meaningful Life. If you're not familiar with Big Idea or Veggie Tales, their mission is to enhance the spiritual and moral fabric of society through creative media. Veggie Tales offers a variety of toys for children including books and DVDs.

Veggie Tales is an adorable computer animated children's program about a variety of different vegetables (Larry the Cucumber, Bob the Tomato, etc.) who encounter a number of different problems in life and learn to deal with them by using Biblical examples and morals.

It's a Meaningful Life is all about Stewart (Larry the Cucumber) who spends his whole life regretting missing a chance at winning the biggest football game of his life. He had hopes of winning the Salad Bowl and living the life of the rich and famous. Instead he's married, has three children and lives a quiet life with a job at a toy factory. He constantly wonders what his life would be like if he had only won that football game instead of focusing on how good his life is now.

He suddenly gets a chance to see what his life would have been like had he won the football game and also gets a chance to see how the people in his life would be impacted if he'd won the football game. He's given the chance to choose which life he wants and learns a valuable lesson in being content.

I really loved It's a Meaningful Life. It's sort of a take off on It's a Wonderful Life without the whole suicide kick and of course geared toward children. It teaches a valuable lesson without coming across as being preachy. Being content with what we have is a wonderful lesson to share with your children as the biggest commercial season of the year is gearing up.

It's a Meaningful Life features the new song "Meant to Be" from multi-Grammy and Dove Award winning artist Steven Curtis Chapman. Bonus features include audio commentary, "Goodnight Junior" singalong, "Meant to Be" music video, Behind the song exclusve interview with Steven Curtis Chapman, Meaningful Family Life Guide, and Larry Rides a Real Train. The DVD is 48 minutes in length.
