DVD Review: Travel With Kids – England - Page 2

The Roberts clearly share my fondness for wildlife, spending extensive time exploring the aquarium and later, the South Lakes Wild Animal Park. One of the leading conservation zoos in Europe, the Park features elevated wood walkways to better glimpse the resident animals along with a wide variety of free-roaming creatures – something I’ve never seen at the zoos in Edmonton and Calgary. Seamus and Nathan are able to hand-feed penguins and wallabies while watching loose emu, owls, and lemurs travel around the zoo. Of course, high-risk animals such as tigers remain within high-security enclosures. I found this segment captivating; to me it would be worth traveling to the far reaches of England simply to visit this animal park.

Riding on an authentic steam-powered train and visiting the Beatrix Potter Museum add exciting tourist stops that no child, big or small, could resist. The combination of beautiful scenery, child-friendly attractions, and historic heritage puts the Lake District on my short list.

Owners of Travel With KidsLondon will discover that many of the additional features found on the DVD are shared with Travel With Kids – England. The general travel tips, bloopers reel, recommended book lists, crafts, recipes etc. are identical on both travel DVDs. There is unique information provided by listing the attractions, accommodations and travel options available in Bath and the Lake District that will be helpful to those planning a voyage.

The opportunity to follow the Roberts family over several travel adventures is a great aid in narrowing down potential destinations for families. The frenetic pace of their trip to London is much different than the relaxed pace of their journeys to Bath and the Lake District. Perhaps it is the focus on nature and green spaces in this disk that creates the feeling of peace throughout these travels — but of the two I’d certainly choose the countryside of England over the crowded, high-speed pace of tourism in London.
