This is a sharp DVD transfer. There’s exceptional details to be had, especially in close ups. Some mild artifacting in long shots causes problems. Black levels are somewhat inconsistent, though they’re rarely rock solid to begin with. The transfer's biggest issue is color, which it has way too much of. Greens and reds in particular bleed out, almost coming off as neon shades. ![]()
Overdone is the best way to describe the audio. Dialogue is mixed low, mostly because you need to keep the volume down to avoid the ridiculously high bass. Every footstep from the monster creates a room shaking effect that overpowers everything else. Some nice surround work can be had, even some of the more subtle stuff in non-action scenes to create false scares. ![]()
A standard making-of is the only extra discussing the film itself. At 26 minutes, it’s padded with footage from the film and a plot synopsis, so the second half is the part to watch. A full episode of the anime Blood+ is included, though any relation to the movie is fleeting at best. ![]()
