DVD Review - Tetsuo - The Iron Man - Page 5

But no, on account of it has thoughts worth thinking, it has a delirious sense of humor, the special-effects are Special, it's made for the price of a quick one off the wrist and yet shames most any blockbuster a man would care to bother thinking of. It has more ideas in half a frame than that fucker Lynch managed in the entirety of his post-Elephant Man career thus far.

The only distressing elements in the whole affair are the occasional flashes of violent misogyny, most apparent in a particularly nasty, but mercifully brief, drill-penis filth-scene.

It's all just another color woven throughout, though, another Beautiful Human Experience reduced to a soulless, nihilistic process.

Risen Jandek, I doubt there's a more awe-inspiring meditation on humanity degraded, or upgraded, in all the swelling earth.

Tetsuo is released on Region 1 DVD as part of Tartan Video's truly exceptional Asia Extreme series. Sadly, barring a beautifully restored print, and the option of either sparkling DTS sound or the original mono, all a fella gets is a glimpse at Tsukamoto's 2004 Vital, and some notes. It would've been nice to see 1987's proto-Tetsuo Denchu Kozo no boken (also known as The Adventures Of Electric Rod Boy) on here, for example, and a commentary would've been as welcome as Bill Gates in a brothel, but no.

Still, you owe it to yourself for to nail the wrists to the armchair and let Tetsuo pummel every limb.

Thanks folks

Brilliantly mad and just plain brilliant offerings as always, Duke!

Has the phrase... "steam rising out his arsehole" ever yet been stated (in English or any language, known or forgotten) in the history of time?

    Surely not!

    Damn, Mr.The Duke,
You always know the right thing to say. First there was that stunning piece on Mr. Doherty, and now I stumble across this. During my high school years I must have watched this hundreds of times.
Keep keepin' on, I like what you have to say.
    Drella.
