DVD Review: Suicide Girls - The First Tour

I have to admit, I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I got this disk. I had seen mention of these Suicide Girls around the net, and I have taken a quick look at the website, but this is my first real, uh, exposure to their entertainment. The only thing I can think of to compare them to would be Carmen Electra's burlesque group, The Pussycat Dolls. Although, I don't think that is an entirely accurate description, but it's the best I can come up with for those who are unfamiliar with them.

This DVD documents the first tour, and serves as in introduction to, what I am guessing is, the core group of women that comprise the group. We follow them as they tour the country putting on shows at sold out venues across the country. I have to admit, I was totally unprepared for this. I thought the disk was just going to be a recorded show, but instead it was broken down into smaller chunks.

It starts off with an introduction to the Suicide Girls by their founder, Missy Suicide. The group is built around feminism, individual expression, and the redefinition of what is considered beautiful. There is something that sets these women apart from what you generally see for this type of entertainment. Tattoos and body piercings abound as these women hail from the alternative side of body adornment.

We get interviews with each of the women, where they talk a little about their involvement with the Suicide Girls and how much fun they've been having doing the tour. We also get a music video version of a photo shoot, each girl in a different setting, stripping down their various outfits, showing off their tattoos, piercings, and body. This is followed by a clip of them performing on stage at one of the tour stops. In between each of the individual segments are behind the scenes with the troupe.

I love the SuicideGirls! Thanks for the review! Some people have criticized them to be really insecured people who are overcompensating by forming their own culture away from the mainstream. I don't really care about de-constructing the phenomenon. Everything's beautiful. Never thought I'd enjoy the sight of tattoos and piercings until SG brought me out of my shell!

I'm a fan as well and Its nice to see that people are recognizing these women. They are revolutionizing the worlds view of BEAUTY! There has even been a suicide girl to grace the pages of PLAYBOY. If you want to know who it was, her name is Mary and she does have a larger chest than most suicide girls, but she's a tatoo'd goddess who made into main stream pinup as herself, standing next to the blond bimbos of the Hugh Hefner Generation. I can't WAIT to see thier 2nd tour.

This dvd is the best documentary I've ever seen, and most likely the best documentary that is ever going to be made!!
I say this because it shows the girl's personalities very well as they tour all over America, with their very unique and sexy burlesque show.
These girls are extremely hot, yet they are not the "typical" burleque show girls, they don't have fake tans, bleached blonde hair and are not full of silicone!!
At last there is a movement of powerful, strong, unique and sexy women that have a place where they can be themselves and feel like they are no longer outcasts, this place is suicidegirls.com
This dvd has many clips from the show, all of which are entertaining and very sexy.
Extras are outtakes from Missy Suicide and an awesome rock music video in which the girls feature.
This is a must for any fans of burleque shows.
Just goes to show that beauty is not just silicone!!
    100% recommended!!
    Enjoy.
    :)

yeah i saw it, and if they didn't take their clothes off it would be another blog community. there is no "typical" form of beauty and they're not revolutionizing anything. beauty is in the eye of the beholder, you can't make a thematic show like this and think it'll appeal to everyone. if these girls had the exact same personalities and they were in thos bleach-blonde tanned bodies, people would call it porno. sexual elitism drives peoples' perspectives on what suicidegirls is at its heart: a blog where very pretty girls take their clothes off. it doesn't make it less interesting, it just makes it so. and yes, i did like the documentary, but i'd rather watch grizzly man at least that guy was uniquely messed up

Note: as support evidence, here is the link to the Suicide Girls contract

Are you aware that Suicide Girls have a very abusive contract? the contract contains many clauses that cannot be canceled and stay up for life. including the right to current and future pictures (basicaly killing their model carreer)

they also not only give up the right to make civil lawsuit against the site, but become responsible for the site defense if a third party sue on their behalf.

clause 4 is most nteresting as it forbid them to sue the site in the event of injuries or death

you still sure you want to associate yourself with that kind of site ? and promote the exploitation of women ?

    Have a nice day !
