DVD Review: SpongeBob SquarePants - To SquarePants or Not to SquarePants

That naïve and silly little sponge is back and he is better than ever. As self-admitted SpongeBob fanatics, my family and I loved SpongeBob SquarePants: To SquarePants or Not to SquarePants. I have to say that this is one of the better collections of SpongeBob episodes that I have seen. The premise that a simple pair of pants — be they round, rather than square — can entirely change a little sponge’s life and turn his world upside down is a clever one.

So begins the title episode of the set. When SpongeBob tosses all of his pants into the dryer after washing them, his day is interrupted by the phone and one of Patrick’s silly antics, which leads SpongeBob to spend most of the day on the telephone with him. Once he checks the dryer, he is shocked to discover that all of his pants have shrunk to teeny tiny size. This leads to a shopping trip to purchase more pants. However, there are no square pants to be had, leaving SpongeBob to make a purchase of round pants. Bikini Bottom will never be the same after this and what follows is sure to bring much laughter and many giggles from the youngest of fans to the oldest.

In addition to "To SquarePants or Not to SquarePants," there are seven additional episodes, including: "Squid’s Visit," where SpongeBob goes to extremes to get his friend Squidward to come over to his pineapple to visit; "The Splinter," which I have to admit brings shivers of the grotesque rippling down my spine each time that gush of poisoned pus explodes from SpongeBob’s splintered thumb; "Boating Buddies," a comical look at the extremes Squidward must go through after a traffic violation, which I don’t actually recall seeing prior to watching this DVD collection; and the same goes for "The Krabby Kronicle," in which Mr. Krabs comes up with the clever plan of turning SpongeBob into a rabid reporter at night to dig up (or in most cases make up) some dirt on the residents of Bikini Bottom to sell newspapers and makes loads of money; and "Grooming Gary," where Gary takes a stand against the antics of the pet show crowd. I’m not sure when these originally aired, but they were new to me, which was rather exciting considering the many times that the little yellow sponge has run across our living room television.
