DVD Review: Reno 911! The Complete Fifth Season Uncensored

One of the most popular shows on Comedy Central, Reno 911!, returns to DVD with the complete fifth season, uncensored.

Reno 911! parodies the long-running police reality show Cops. Cameras follow around a group of inept sheriffs in Reno, and chronicle their time on the job. Like Michael Scott in The Office, as you watch Reno 911! it’s hard to figure out exactly how these people have kept their jobs for so long. They are a group of hapless misfits, each with their own extreme quirks, all thrown together and told to “protect and serve.”

As always, it’s a pleasure to watch the Reno Sheriff’s Department fail at everything they do. While in the line of duty they come across the best of the worst that Reno has to offer. A lot of the old favorites are back such as Patton Oswalt as the guy who is living a real life Dungeons and Dragons story, or their old friend Terry (who was also featured in the Reno 911! movie).

The DVDs

There are three discs in this set, with seven episodes on the first two discs. The last disc has two episodes and all the bonus material. Each disc is packed in a slim case, which has an index, episode descriptions, and a picture from each episode on the inside. The slim cases slide into a cardboard holder with some fun, albeit in your face (check the box art), artwork.

Each of the discs has fully animated menus where you can have the choice to play all the episodes at once, or select single episodes. Episodes that are marked with a star contain commentary by the actors.

Each episode is presented in its original full frame television format, and the sound is presented in Dolby Digital 2.0.

The Extras

There are a limited number of episodes that contain commentary from the cast. But, the ones that have commentary are worth listening to. I was sad to see that Nicey Nash (Deputy Raineesha Williams) and Mary Birdsong (Deputy Cherisha Kimball) were not included on any of the commentary tracks though.

Ep. 3: Cedric Yarbrough (Deputy S. Jones) and Wendy McLendon-Covey (Deputy Clementine Johnson)
Ep. 6: Kenny-Silver (Deputy Trudy Wiegel), Lennon (Lieutenant Jim Dangle), Yarbrough, Garant (Deputy Travis Junior) and Carlos Alazraqui (Deputy Garcia)
Ep. 7: Yarbrough and McLendon-Covey
Ep. 9: Kenny-Silver, Lennon, Yarbrough, Garant and Alazraqui
Ep. 10: Kenny-Silver, Lennon, Yarbrough, Garant and Alazraqui
Ep. 16: Kenny-Silver, Lennon, Yarbrough, Garant and Alazraqui
