Private Practice is the successful spin-off from the hit show Grey’s Anatomy, starring Kate Walsh as Addison Montgomery. She’s put the drama of Seattle Grace behind her and is embarking on all new drama in sunny L.A. as an obstetrician in a private practice.
The practice includes Peter Wilder (Tim Daly) the alternative medicine specialist; fertility specialist, endocrinologist, and one of Addison’s closest friends, Naomi Bennett (Audra McDonald); her estranged husband Sam Bennett (Taye Diggs), who is an internal medicine specialist; psychiatrist Violet Turner (Amy Brenneman); pediatrician Cooper Freedman (Paul Adelstein); and rounding out the staff is William "Dell" Parker (Chris Lowell), receptionist and nurse studying to become a midwife.
Addison finds herself as part of another ensemble, but this time the focus is on her and Kate Walsh shines in this role and gets to deal with romance issues, personal demons, and more. Walsh has amazing range and talent and finally gets a show of her own and it’s well deserved.
Private Practice was another show that was affected by last year's strike. It was originally given a 13-episode order which then got picked up for 22 episodes, making it a full season. The show only completed production of nine of the 13 originally ordered episodes for its first season. But even though there are only nine episodes that doesn’t mean this set is lacking in extras.
There are extended episodes for the first episode, "In Which We Meet Addison, a Nice Girl From Somewhere Else" and "In Which Addison finds the Magic.” What we get here are episodes with scenes that were cut for time and put back where they were intended to run. I wish more sets would use this option, I really like deleted scenes, but it’s better to put them back where they’re supposed to go.
