The newest Predators movie was released by Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment on Blu-ray and DVD on October 19th. Several seemingly unconnected people are whisked away from their individual lives and dropped from parachutes into the jungle. Their first memories are of free falling through the sky, a parachute opening, then landing on an alien planet.
They all land in the same approximate area although none of them know each other. The one thing they all seem to have in common is that they are killers in one way or another. The group includes soldiers, convicted murderers, special forces members, assassins and a doctor. They soon realize that they aren't the only been dropped onto this planet. A number of savage dog-like creatures have also been dropped in cages and set free to hunt them.
The killers soon realize that they've been dropped into the middle of an alien game preserve and they're the prey. They try to outwit the aliens and work with each other to survive. Given that they are all social predators themselves with too much machismo, they don't work together very well.
I had a problem really considering this a Predator movie without Arnold (Schwarzenegger) starring. But the movie does continue with the same aliens as the previous movies, and they have pretty much the same vision and cloaking abilities. The special effects are truly fantastic and the movie kept me right on the edge of my seat. There is quite a bit of violence and gore, which is probably why it's rated R. You can definitely expect some serious blood and guts in this one. Several heads were cut off and spines ripped out with all the associated dripping blood and gore. Not for those with a weak stomach. All in all a really fantastic action movie.
Predators is available on a 2-disk Blu-ray package with digital copy and on a standard DVD. Blu-ray special features include a commentary by Robert Rodriguez and director Nimrod Antal, "Motion Comics," "Evolution of the Species: Predators Reborn,""The Chosen,""Fox Movie Channel presents Making a Scene," and deleted and extended scenes. BD Live Extras and Live Lookup - powered by IMDb are also included.
The standard DVD also provides several extras, including the commentary by Rodriguez and Antal, and several featurettes: "De-cloaking the Invisible: Alien Terrain," "Motion Comics," "Moments of Extraction," and "Crucified."
