There does seem to be a great sadness to Ron Jeremy at times, almost a desperate need to be wanted. Perhaps it is a bit of a cliche that such a famous man could be so lonely, but that's Ron Jeremy. We also learn that he's a bit of a cheapskate — when he travels, he carries his belongings in large plastic garbage bags.
The film delves into the working world of adult films, and we follow Jeremy to a clinic for his monthly HIV screening, as he waits anxiously for the results. Jeremy still appears in films (he's famous for...well, let's just say a certain attribute ideal for the adult film industry) both in front of and behind the camera. Ron Jeremy may never cross over to mainstream success, but at this point in his career, he probably doesn't need to.
Ron Jeremy comes across as a very likeable person. If the film has one failing it is the fact that we don't explore in greater depth the obvious sadness behind Jeremy's funny-guy screen persona. We catch some glimpses of it, especially in the segments where Jeremy talks about leaving the porn industry and craving the mainstream success that has eluded him.
Porn Star: The Legend of Ron Jeremy is an entertaining and provocotive film, giving us a glimpse into the life of a man who has been an industry legend for over 25 years. Highly recommended.
(Note: I reviewed the unrated version of the film; there is an R-rated version as well).

I probably shouldn't admit this, but ... I've seen this documentary (I think about two years ago or so). What struck me, more than anything else, was the sadness of his life. He seems to want, more than anything else, to be accepted as 'mainstream', and he will always be grasping at the fringes of the periphery.
Sad, too, was how his friends laughed at how 'star-struck' he was - wanting his photo taking with all of the 'real' stars. And, he had tons of photographs of him with so many people. He also kept that ratty, bulging notebook, scribbled with notes, and telephone numbers, and addresses of everyone he knew, and everyone he had ever met.
At a few times during the filming with him, you could see the sadness and regret he had about being alone. He had a difficult time talking about his first (I can't remember if it was wife or long-term girlfriend), but he still had some major issues over her.
I have seen, read and heard that most of the adult film "actresses" that have worked with him over the years absoluted hated him, and many refused to work with him again. And, I can see where he could be an obnoxious pig (again from interviews, etc.) but, still, this documentary put a new perspective on him as someone other than the 'larger-than-life' (no pun intended) persona that we have all known over the years. He did teach Special Ed in the 70s before his girlfriend submitted his photo to PlayGirl. He had planned to pursue a legitimate acting career before that happened. Who knows where he may have ended up if not for that one photograph?

Ron Jeremy Gets Saucy
Baltimore, MD--February 27, 2004 Long-time adult film and television star, Ron Jeremy, along with TripleXhotsauce.Com have developed there first line of specialty hot sauce available to the general public.
Manufactured and distributed by TripleXhotsauce.Com, the six-ounce bottle with Jeremy's likeness will be available nationally at various retail locations and online at Triplexhotsauce.com in May 2006.
These unique and innovative collectible items stems from the overwhelming request by his long-time fans, for collectable items from Mr. Jeremy at tradeshows, private parties and other appearances by Jeremy.
We thought it would be fun to hand out a few bottles of hot sauce (with my face on it) at various events. Never did I think people would react so favorably. Men, women, young and old were so excited and delighted with the product, said Jeremy. So we decided to develop an entire line and get it out to the masses.
The line will be unveiled in June during a launch party in Baltimore.
Having appeared in 1,700 films and directed 250 others throughout his 25 year career, Jeremy is generally regarded as the most influential figure in the adult film industry as well as appearing in numerous mainstream projects such as 54, Reindeer Games, Nash Bridges, America's Most Wanted" and, most recently, The Surreal Life". He has also starred in 14 music videos - more than any other actor.
Born in Queens NY, Ron Jeremy holds a Masters Degree in Special Education and a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. Jeremy is also a classical piano and violin player and an active member of many charitable organizations throughout the Las Angeles area.
