DVD Review: One-Eyed Monster - Page 2

Liberation Entertainment has unleashed their One-Eyed Monster on DVD in a pleasant-looking widescreen 1.78:1 transfer accompanied by your pick of English Dolby Digital 2.0 or 5.1 sound (no subtitles, sorry). Several special features are included and consist of an audio commentary with director Fields; a few deleted scenes and outtakes; “Porn Yesterday: A Conversation With Ron Jeremy And Veronica Hart,” wherein the XXX stars talk about the fabulous industry back when films were actually released in theaters, etc.; the phony featurette “Spotlight On: The Dick Wrangler;” and, lastly, an assortment of trailers and a gallery.

Even though the penis jokes got old rather quick for me, One-Eyed Monster still manages to be a lot better than I thought it would be. As a “mainstream” actor, Ron Jeremy hasn’t found his instrument yet (no pun intended), but if you liked porn’s one true living icon in Orgazmo, then this one is definitely for you.

If I had bothered to actually figure out that this movie had a genre all its own, I might not have been surprised at how many times I busted out laughing watching this thing. Not surprisingly, Horror/Porn movie parodies have a shelf all to themselves in most video stores, but I'm not embarrased to admit that I highly recommend this little gem to anyone with a wry sense of humor and an appreciation for horror classics like "The Thing" or the original "Night of the Living Dead". The writing and performances from a largely unknown or underknown cast is dead on and had me find out the next time it was on so that I could schedule it on my dvr. It's not going to ever be confused with any Hitchcock masterpieces but if you happen to see it available at your video store or on a late night cable channel, check it out; it won't disappoint.
