DVD Review: Omen III: The Final Conflict - Page 2

In Omen 3, Damien is now 32-years-old, and head of the multinational conglomerate, Thorn Industries. It appears that many of Damien's employees know his secret, which would have made for an interesting interview:

Manager: Oh, and one last thing, the boss is the son of Satan.
Job candidate: Hmmm ... say, do you offer comprehensive medical?

We begin at some sort of rock quarry and a guy working the line discovers some loot buried in rocks: seven daggers, or the infamous Daggers of Megiddo, designed for one purpose: to kill the Anti-Christ. The daggers end up in the hands of a group of seven Italian priests who are ready to put an end to Damien Thorn.

This all might sound interesting, but it's not. The script is boring, the direction by Graham Baker is dull and plodding, and Sam Neil as Damien is just not menacing enough to be the son of Satan.

But back to the plot. Damien wants to be the U.S. Ambassador to Great Britain, and uses he evil powers to drive the current ambassador to a very public (and graphic) suicide. Damien is selected as the replacement, bringing him closer to his goal of, apparently, becoming the President of the United States and ruling the world.

Meanwhile, some astronomers have discovered a heavenly alignment of stars indicating the birth of the Christ-child, the nemesis and destroyer of the anti-Christ. Damien becomes aware of the presence of the "Nazarene" and, after pinning down the time frame that the Christ child would have been born in, orders his minions to kill off every boy child born during that time frame.

In between his evil deeds, Damien gets into a relationship with a British journalist, Kate Reynolds (Lisa Harrow), and her teenage son, Peter (Barnaby Holm). Damien enlists the lad into his Satanic army to join in with Damien's minions attempt to kill off all the male children. Hot on Damien's trail is Father DeCarlo (Rosanno Brazzi) and the other priests equipped with the Daggers of Megiddo.

Don't forget the (unintentionally) funniest scene of the movie. Damien can make animals do his bidding, so he commands a pack of dogs to kill one of his enemies. The problem with the scene is, they're beagle puppies! This guy is supposed to be suffering a horrible death, but he's being "mauled" by cute little beagles, wagging their tails. At least in the first movie, there was a scary dog - a black bull terrier I think.

Yes, the evil beagles -- look out, I'm being attacked by Snoopy! Noooooooo! (mild growling and tail wagging ensue).
