DVD Review: Murdoch Mysteries - Season One - Page 2

Murdoch Mysteries lands on DVD for all to see (and judge) courtesy Acorn Media in a 4-disc set. Each episode is presented in an anamorphic widescreen (1.78:1) ratio and English Stereo sound. The video transfers here are quite beautiful and practically flawless, while the audio comes through just fine. English subtitles are included.

Also included with this release are several special features: an audio commentary on “Power,” the series’ pilot, with select cast and crew; several interviews; a photo gallery; and a couple of bios for cast and characters.

Personally, Murdoch Mysteries didn’t sit well with me or my significant other (and she thought Twilight was good, so that ought to tell you something). I found it to be a lifeless series garnished with a generous portion of cheese. But, despite my slight aversion towards it, Murdoch Mysteries has nevertheless received its fair share of acclaim from critics and viewers alike. Perhaps you will enjoy it more than I did. I’d strongly suggest renting it first.

Clearly you have not taken the time to sit down and really enjoy the stories so beautifully presented on "Murdoch Mysteries". I have never been a fan of Canadian television until this program and I am so impressed by the cinematography, writing, acting and production values that I will eagerly await the new season. I'm thankful, and not surprised, that you appear to be in the minority in your assessment. Long live Murdoch and his fabulous mysteries!

Au contraire, I did take the time to sit down and I really wanted to enjoy the series as it looked very promising. Alas, it did not fare well with me.

Our entire family loves to watch Murdock Mysteries each week, and we cannot wait for the 2010 season to begin. It's a wonderfully historical and Canadian whodunnit. The production is superb; the writing and acting are flawless. We need more tv series as well done as this one is.

I found the show incredibly cheesy as well. It was like watching children's programming.
