Or, maybe you simply don’t have the right sense of humor to appreciate “fine art” such as Machete — in which case you should just watch Cinderella Man again instead. If you are a lover of classic exploitation movies, however, and you possess the extra intelligence quotient points necessary to get the “gist” of the original Grindhouse, then you owe it to yourself to see this whimsically-violent ode to those fantastic “bad” movies of the ‘70s and ‘80s.
Seeing as how Fox Home Entertainment sent me a DVD-R Screener of the title, I am unable to give an honest representation of the finished DVD’s video or audio aspects. I can, however, tell you what Special Features there are on the Standard DVD release of the film. Machete goes for the throat (or innards, perhaps) first off with an Audience Reaction Track, which allows viewers at home to get a feel for what it’s like to watch a movie in a theater where the patrons actually get into what they’re seeing. Next up are several Deleted Scenes, which aren’t altogether interesting and give us a little unwanted depth into Jessica Alba’s character. Several trailers for Machete (the “Green Band” trailer for general audiences and the controversial “Red Band” trailer that will have newbies dropping their jaws) and several other Fox releases and promos are also included.
In short: go get this movie now, dammit!
