When I was presented with the opportunity to review the new Left Behind movie A World At War, I jumped at the chance. I had watched the first one a few years ago, and was so disappointed at the poor quality of the film that I never bought #2 when it came out three years ago. That said, I sat down with an open mind and eagerly watched this one based on the 2nd half of the book Tribulation (which is book #2 in the best selling Left Behind Series).
I was actually quite surprised; the acting was first rate. The cinamatography was excellent. It was actually better many times over from the first film. World At War picks up eighteen months after the first sequel closed. I think one of the best action scenes was Nicholae (Gordan Currie) using his mental powers to pick up U.S. President Fitzhugh (Louis Gossett, Jr.) and throwing him out of the top floor window of the United Nations building. After Fitzhugh lands on the top of a car, he picks himself up and walks away, and Nicholae, whom the Christians in the movie believe to be the anti-Christ, says, "that's not humanly possible," (looking skyward) he continues (with disgust), "is it?"
The best presentation of the gospel was by international journalist Buck Williams (Kirk Cameron). Even though the film is Christian-themed and presents tidbits of the scripture, I don't believe the film would be effective as an evangelistic tool; instead I think it would create more confusion and questions.
Still though, I would encourage everyone to get the DVD and watch it. It truly is the best Left Behind film to date and that was probably because of the violence. I know many Christians who dislike violence in their movies, but given the subject, I found it very much appropriate. This film contained no profanity, sex or nudity.
and that's the way I see it! and now for your thoughts...
