Indyfans and the Quest for Fortune and Glory is a documentary, or “fanumentary” if you will, by filmmaker Brandon Kleyla that takes a look at how Indiana Jones has become an icon that has affected people in all walks of life. In order to do this Kleyla travels the country talking with fans and people in the industry and going to conventions to get peoples' comments on what Indiana Jones means to them.
What’s interesting is that Brandon Kleyla never saw the original Indiana Jones trilogy in the theater since he was born in 1983 and is too young to have seen the flicks. He first fell in love with the character when he watched the Indiana Jones stunt show at Disney's MGM Studios. Following that show, Brandon has collected what is reported to be one of the largest Indiana Jones memorabilia collections in the world.
He had wanted to do a documentary on Indiana Jones for awhile but when he heard about Kingdom of the Crystal Skull he knew this was the time to make the film. The documentary follows Kleyla as he travels the country and meets the fans. He speaks with Vic Armstrong who was Harrison Ford’s stunt double and Armstrong talks about creating the memorable stunts throughout the Indiana Jones trilogy. Raiders of The Lost Ark costume designer Deborah Nadoolman-Landis recalls how she created the outfit for one of the most recognizable film characters ever.
Kleyla also speaks with Tony Baxter and Tim Kirk who contributed to the creations of the various Indiana Jones shows and rides in the Disney parks; and we hear about fans' experiences which run the gamut from seeing the films in the theatre with their dads to the fourth movie’s announcement at San Diego Comic-Con 2007, to a fan gathering at MGM Studios. All the interviewees have one thing in common — the love of Indiana Jones, and I must say I’ve attended numerous conventions over the years and I’ve never seen as many female fans for a genre, and attractive ones at that! Of course it could be Kleyla is no dummy and featured attractive fans over the stereotypical ones who are also featured in the film.
