The third installment in the Ice Age on-going animated series, Dawn of the Dinosaurs, is by far my favorite. Everyone in my family, including my seven-year-old daughter, three-year-old son and husband, have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of this movie onto DVD. I can honestly say that no one was the least bit disappointed. I was probably the least excited, considering the previous two, Ice Age and Ice Age: The Meltdown, while cute, didn't do a whole lot for me nor did they blow me away. Dawn of the Dinosaurs, however, was fun, cute, adorable, hilarious and just an all-around great family movie. I have to join the rest in saying that I really enjoyed and loved it.
While grand mammoths Manny and Ellie await the birth of their baby mammoth, Sid feels the ache of parenthood. With this in mind, he goes out and comes across three rather large eggs. Telling himself that these poor eggs are parentless, he takes it upon himself to cart them home and become their daddy.
It doesn't take long for the eggs to hatch and out pop three adorable, but unknown creatures, who wreck havoc on everyone. The question of the babies' origin is quickly resolved when their mama comes looking for them. To the horror of the inhabitants of the land, she is not small by any means, but a very large and very angry dinosaur. Snatching up her beloved babies, as well as Sid, she precedes to take them back to their rightful homes.
So starts the adventure of the Ice Age gang as they travel to an underworld they had not previously known existed. This is not a gentle and quiet world, but a world filled with dinosaurs and one very mean and very overbearing leader. How were they ever going to survive this adventure and find Sid?
While Manny, Ellie, Diego and the gang go in search of their friend, they must protect their lives from hungry little dinos looking for a snack, as well as put their faith in a strange little one-eyed "outback" weasel named Buck, who puts himself in the role of their guide. Full of rules and a bit on the enigmatic side, Bu
ck will bring plenty of laughs, as well as many questioning and wondering thoughts from the gang.
In this third adventure, the ever-ambitious and nut hunting Scratte finds love and makes an even bigger laugh-inducing presence, which lends further delight and entertainment.
