Both films also have their own commentaries. Ryfle is the dominant one here, while his partner Ed Godziszewski (writer of the extremely hard to find Illustrated Encyclopedia of Godzilla) spouts off a few comments. He's slightly more active on the better U.S. commentary.
The Japanese version's commentary is hardly a disappointment; it's simply dry and monotone. Ryfle reads off various facts while only pointing out a few things about the film you're watching. Some of these comments overlap the featurettes and booklet as well.
On the other side, the U.S. track features archival interviews with the producer of the translation. Ryfle and Godziszewski even bring on Terry Morse Jr., son of the late Terry Morse, who directed the new scenes in the U.S. He discusses his small role in the production (editing), the film, and how his father put it together.
Numerous "facts" are corrected, including the one which states Raymond Burr performed all of his scenes in a single marathon session. It's lively and informative. The two discs also feature the specific regions trailer. ![]()
Classic Media has announced two more Godzilla films for the coming months. Gojira's sequel, Gojira no gyakushû (better known as Godzilla Raids Again), and Godzilla vs. Mothra. This will be the first time Godzilla Raids Again gets a release since a long out-of-print VHS copy disappeared close to two decades ago. Of course, this is also the first time the Japanese versions of these films will be released Stateside.

What misnomers?

Those that place the film in the same category as the campy child-friendly 70s disasters. I've met many a person who have no idea what the original film was/is.

Oh, you mean misconceptions. OK, thanks.
