Sarah Marshall (Kristen Bell) is a successful actress who’s been with her boyfriend, TV composer Peter Bretter (Jason Segel), for five and half years. Peter thinks things are going well, but one day out of the blue Sarah drops a bombshell on him. She’s breaking up with him. Peter starts doing different things to get over her and that’s the premise for Forgetting Sarah Marshall.
In Forgetting Sarah Marshall Peter goes through various stages of grief including depression, anger, and what most guys do – try to have sex with as many different women as possible to forget Sarah. After moping around his apartment he decides to take a vacation and go to Hawaii. He goes to check in and while concierge Rachel Jansen (Mila Kunis) is telling him only the $6,000 a night suite is available, he finds out that Sarah and her new beau, rocker Aldous Snow (Russell Brand), are staying in the same hotel and keep running into each other all over the resort!
Forgetting Sarah Marshall was written by Jason Segel and was partially inspired from events in his own life. It was produced by Judd Apatow (Freaks & Geeks, 40 Year Old Virgin) and after stumbling with Drillbit Taylor, Apatow once again has another hit on his hands.
The movie is very funny. Jason Segel is believable as a lovable guy who gets his heart ripped out and tries to get over it, which is something you can relate to, male or female. Mila Kunis, Russell Brand, and Jack McBrayer are extremely funny in their roles, especially McBrayer as the virgin on his honeymoon who doesn’t know what to do, and Brand excels as the pompous rock star Sarah is seeing. Kristen Bell is excellent as always, this time as the actress who breaks Peter’s heart and makes it all about her, when she’s the one who was cheating on Peter for over a year!
