DVD Review: Bethenny's Skinnygirl Workout

If you want to try yoga but you're intimidated, or if you think you don't have time for a workout, give Bethenny's Skinnygirl Workout a try.

Here, Bethenny Frankel teams with veteran yoga instructor Mike McArdle to provide flexible workout options that are easy to follow and not at all overwhelming. There are workouts to do when you have 15 minutes, 30 minutes, or 45 minutes. The moves are challenging but don't seem impossible.

Bethenny makes everything seem more do-able because she does not do everything perfectly herself the first time, and McArdle has an easy, charming way of interacting with her and therefore with you. They talk to each other in a natural way, and Frankel adds her own comments as they go along, reminding the viewer to breathe and explaining what certain movements are good for and even exclaiming at one point, "this is hard!" It is a pleasure to see a video where the person working out does not make everything look so easy that you feel incompetent when you just can't do it.

The video includes three workouts of varying lengths and complexity, as well as a bonus stretch. You are encouraged to do it every day or several times a week, according to your own wishes, and to have fun and make it your own.

"I don't believe in expensive trainers. I don't believe in people yelling at you. I believe in realistic, sutainable fitness plans," Frankel explains on the back of the DVD. And that is exactly what she and Mr. McArdle deliver here.

Included in the case is a booklet of easy and delicious-sounding recipes from Frankel's cookbook, The Skinnygirl Dish.

Overall, this DVD will be a great workout addition for the experienced yoga practitioner and a wonderful way to get started for a beginner who wants to lose weight, tone up, and be more relaxed as well.
