DVD Review: All Monsters Attack - Page 2

The US version on the other hand is a mess. There’s a constant shimmering and aliasing problem evident. Compression is overly heavy. The bright, bleeding colors don’t help. It’s an improvement over previous DVD releases (which were either full screen or non-anamorphic), though not by much.

Audio is strictly mono. There are no noticeable moments of distortion. All dialogue is clear, and the monster roars don’t strain the sound.

A short feature on director Ishiro Honda is pulled from a previous Classic Media release, and is the first extra. Richard Pusateri is the lucky person who has the chance to provide a commentary for this one, and he does okay for the material. He has fun with the movie, pointing out flaws, but also digs into the various cameos from Toho veterans and provides filmographies. An image gallery and always impressive menus round off the release.

In case you’re wondering, stock footage is pulled from three previous movies. Godzilla vs. The Sea Monster is the most common, including extended fight sequences. Son of Godzilla uses brief battles. Finally, Destroy All Monsters is evident when Ichiro spots the various creatures on the island.
