DVD Review: 7th Heaven: The Tenth Season

7th Heaven is an American drama television series broadcast from 1996 to 2007 that ran for eleven seasons; the last show aired May 13, 2007.

The series features an American family living in California whose father is a pastor, Eric Camden (Stephen Collins). He and his wife Annie (Catherine Hicks) have seven children: Matt (Barry Watson), Mary (Jessica Biel), Lucy (Beverly Mitchell), Simon (David Gallagher), Ruthie (Mackenzie Rosman), and twins David and Sam (Lorenzo Brino and Nikolas Brino). They also have a surrogate son, Martin (Tyler Hoechlin), although by the tenth season, several of the children had grown up and gone away (from home and the series). Simon left home to go away to college. Matt left home to be married and become a doctor. Mary was sent to her Grandmother's house to live because of behavior problems. Lucy is married and living in a garage apartment with her husband.

During season 10, Sam and David continue to live at home, while Simon is out of school and engaged to be married. The surrogate son, Martin, attends high school. Ruthie and Lucy are both featured this season as is Lucy's husband, Kevin (George Stults).

Given that Eric Camden is a pastor, it stands to reason that many of the episodes take a conservative, religious viewpoint. The series deals with one moral problem each week including teen pregnancy, alcoholism, premarital sex, guns, and homelessness. During this season, Simon decides (after his fiance pressures him) to move up his wedding a year. The family must deal with the fact that their surrogate son, Martin, finds out he's going to be a father in his senior year of high school. Lucy finds out that she's pregnant again after her husband, Kevin, quits the police force to become a stay-at-home father.
