DVD Releases For Week Beginning 19th July 2004

Part of: New DVDs

There's some interesting stuff with regards the "cult" shenanigans this week, mostly in the form of those Thunderbirds, what was the cult British TV kids series what is now all Hollywoodified, don't you know? I couldn't care less about a bunch a puppets, although Gerry Andersons later Terrahawks series was a favorite for the Young Duke.

As tribute to Sir Phil, what used to do these weekly round-ups but then, I believe, had to go work for OJ Simpson, although I can't go into specifics except to say he lives in OJ's basement most nights, I usually pick 5 DVD's what get The Duke's Seal Of Approval. This week, though, I can only pick 2, but these are ones I would genuinely purchase, rather than five that look kinda interesting.

Predator - 2 Disc Special Edition

This has been out here in the UK for, I believe, at least a year, so The Duke can vouch that it is indeed a worthy edition for the film about the Rastafarian what has dental issues and then Arnie says about "You're an ugly motherfucker" which, I believe, he got into trouble for during his political campaign. Now he insists that he said "I respect you as a species" and then hugged it.

He's a lying sonabitch, though, as you can see for yourself.

The flick has a commentary and loads of the featurettes and so on, and also, I believe, one deleted scene.

STOP PRESS AND SO ON - It seems this disc has been put back until August 10th, but you can still pre-order via the Amazonians or whoever, underneath the post.

Starsky And Hutch

The Duke's love of Todd Phillips knows no bounds, from his amazing Hated - GG Allin And The Murder Junkies, through to the Old School with the Will Ferrell and this here flick about the gay police.

Owen Wilson and Ben Stiller are, as ever, fantastic, and I would say these two cats are the best comic pairing since when Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor got stuck in a jail. It was downright insidious in its hilarity, is the truth.

Check The Duke's Review If You Don't Believe The Man. Quote from review - "I loved this damn film, I laughed like a man who just got told his nuts were filled with diamonds." They didn't throw that on the poster, though, the heartless fiends.
