DVD Releases For 8-02-2005

Part of: New DVDs

Hey folks

Now, if you heard The Duke's Audioblog Experiment earlier then chances are you noted that I apologized for missing this week's DVD releases. Well, I figured better late than never. I don't wanna let you folks down, man. But it's a pretty bare-bones run-down this week, on account of a whole loada nonsense going on.

So let's get the hell to it!

The Duke's Ultimate Pick

Martin Scorsese Box Set

I don't care who the hell you are, man, you need to own this. I already have Raging Bull and The Last Waltz, but do I have Raging Bull with a shitload of commentaries and two discs? I think you'll you find I don't, and until this comes out on Region 2, I ain't gonna either, since Box Sets cost ridiculous amounts for to import. Sometimes you ain't got a choice though, on account of the stuff's technically illegal, i.e, Mondo Cane, Guinea Pig etc.

This Scorsese Box has, thank God, no overlap with the earlier, equally wonderful set. What you get are the following;

New York, New York; Raging Bull 2 Disc Set; The Last Waltz; Boxcar Bertha.

New York, New York is one of my favorite Scorsese flicks, a twisted, uncomfortable MGM Musical parody. Here it gets 25 minutes of deleted scenes and the like, too. Sadly, Boxcar Bertha, Scorsese's effort as Director-For-Hire for Roger Corman, seems to have no extras.

Malcolm X -Special Edition

Just last week, man, The Duke was moaning about why ain't there no special edition of Malcolm X. I don't wanna blow my own trombone or whatever, but seems those DVD cats may have took heed, since look, here it is.

What you get across these two discs are a Spike Lee commentary, a making-of, and best of all, the 1972 Oscar-nominated feature Documentary Malcolm X. A must have set, man.

Finally, also on the schedules this week are Shark's Tale, which I haven't seen, being a CGI Finding Nemo Does The Godfather type deal, and a few Best Picture collections featuring various Musicals, Dramas and so on that have picked up said Oscar. Worth investigating if you got the green and don't already own the discs.

And on the TV front there's the first season of The Fresh Prince Of Bell Air. Also, the first season of Deadwood has arrived, too, and I hear it rules, is what.
