DVD Releases - December 21st 2004

Part of: New DVDs

On account of everyone's probably bought everything they're gonna be buying till at least January 5th or so, the schedule is as barren as it's ever been this week. Still, there are at least three worthy of a couple notes, is what, like these three here, for example.

Shaun Of The Dead

One of the best flicks of 2004 makes it's Region 1 debut. Sadly, the disc is nowhere near as packed as the Region 2 number, which has sat on The Shelf De Duke for a couple months now, brimming with commentaries and such. There are a few featurettes here, though, and a handful of extended scenes. Still, what I would suggest is import the Region 2, or else wait until the inevitable super-deluxe version. "You've got red on you" and so on.

Simpsons Season 5

Another seasons worth of utter genius, is what. This time around we get such classics as the legalized gambling episode, and also the Barbershop quartet carry-on, and Lisa Versus Malibu Stacy and what not. The usual array of commentaries and such compliment the main attractions.

Napoleon Dynamite

I been hearing plenty good things about this here, and sure enough, I get a chance to hear loads more, since there's no less than three commentaries. Is it the funniest damn thing you ever did see? Who the hell knows.

Well, here's the full run-down for December 21st 2004

And here I thought you were one of those buggers who stole all that money from that bank. And it turns out you were just lazy.

The lead from Napoleon Dynamite did the Top 10 on Letterman last night, and did a right dorky job of it too!

Nah, man, i missed out on that banking tomfoolery. bloody hell, 20 million no less. I didn't know there was that much IN northern ireland, never mind locked in one place. Also, the IRA, i belive, have been setting fire to various business areas, so it turns out to be a productive week for the criminal underworld.

Added to add, "The 4400" is 99 and 44/100th per cent pure shite. It starts out promising, but soon turns into the poor-man's poor-man's X-Files for those who watch it with closed captioning for the stupid.

Really bad, and they've threatened to make more.

Does Dream Warrior have anything to do with the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise (wasn't the third or fourth installment entitled Dream Warriors?... I think I attended a birthday party in the 3rd or 4th grade where that film was the birthday-boy feature selection)?

Can't wait to see Shaun of the Dead... Evil Dead 2 is one of my all time faves, so I suppose that makes me a fan of the horror/comedy flick.

Saw Napolean on Letterman on a one-in-a-billion night where I watched a late night talk show. He was pretty good.

I'm surprised he was able to do "Napoleon Dynamite" so well about two years after first doing the movie. If you haven't seen the movie, think about if the nerds from "Revenge of the Nerds" made a movie about themselves. Or "Heathers" was from the point of view of the nerds who snort milk out their nose, or if "The Simpsons" was from the point of view of Milhous van Hauten.

Just for the record, Anacondas was bad. Not awful, but bad. It seems to forget it's a giant snake movie. Full review soon!
